So has ASEAN NOW bitten the dust?

Good grief. That is a statement that elicits disgust and causes me to ask if you knew who some of those people were? Do you have an interest in deviant behavior and are you perhaps writing a tell all book on the dark secrets of Thailand's internet sites? Let me take you down, the memory lane of creepiness.

katabeachbum: He was a Phuket forum moderator and Thai highway police moderator. A fine upstanding Norwegian , until the popo discovered the dismembered body of his "girlfriend" in barrels in the basement of this  home.   https://phuketwan.com/tourism/phuket-body-bin-human-forensic-police-raid-expat-mansion-15589/        For a time, some would make inquiries as to what happened. The posts would quickly disappear, and a persistence in asking for transparency  would result in a ban.

Bonobo: He was allegedly a former command USMC officer (self proclaimed) with an alleged  collection of pornographic websites. (I tried to visit some of them, but all the urls are dead.)   He was also linked to a Russian dating site, touting his own experience with a 17 year old. He disappeared shortly after the first purchase of the website when the new owners started to verify their moderators. (A great many mods departed at that time. Some say, they wanted the change. However, I am of the view that they couldn't meet certain  requirements of the new owners.)  Perhaps he is in jail, or dead, or maybe leading a chaste clean life. Such are the mysteries of  ThaiVisa.

PeaceBlondie: This was one bundle of weirdness. He  had been married with children and then all of a sudden went bisexual, then gay. His tales were the type that made me feel sorry for his children. He wasn't a bad guy  it seemed, just that he had a creepy vibe. He had a stroke and couldn't do much afterwards,  and finally died before Covid. I felt sorry for him.

Endure: This was the epitome of evil screwed up moderators. He was a machinist on freighters that plied the Asian-USA routes. He took up with a  filipino ladyboy. He had quite a chip on his shoulder and was always trying to prove how tough he was, provoking forum members who didn't share his views on his lifestyle choice. When the new ownership cleaned house, he disappeared. I always pictured him as a potbellied old grouch, with a hairy neck, hairy big cauliflowered ears and untamed hairs poking out of a blackhead filled pockmarked bulbous nose. I expect that he is probably dead by now.

CDNVic: This was a nasty guy. Just plain mean and condescending too.  I had the impression that he would intentionally provoke some members just so he could suspend or ban them. He is apparently from Victoria, BC, Canada. That explains a lot about his mindset. Victoria is like Century village retirement gated community for angry white people.

MetisDead: I can't think of anyone who has a nice thing to say about him.

The original IT Webmaster: Long ago the  man who was the go to guy for the website IT setup was implicated in a child abuse case. His name has since disappeared from the internet, and all traces of the story seem to have disappeared years ago. Old timers may remember this man.

SBK: She was quite the active moderator. Ever present and one of the few with a modicum of common sense. And then, the embarrassment of Chiang Mai occurred when she was outed publicly as a TVF Mod.  I don't think her local activities and TVF were compatible, and she quickly disappeared from the website.

Ijustwannateach: Another one with a high icky characteristic. He is a teacher, and met every negative, nasty stereotype. His website photos indicate a prissy, pudgy white man. He was eventually outed as a man who (allegedly) roamed the gay sex sites and was trying to sell himself as a devout christian. (After the exposure his MySpace profile went private).   I won't repeat the preferences that he allegedly indicated on one of his dating profiles, but they will make you want to disinfect after reading.

Oh they had such high hopes for thaivisa as a brand.  How many people can remember Bangkok Chat? It was an internet chat room  that Thai Visa sold off. It didn't last more than a few years.  😁

Golly gee, I have been around way too long and have morphed into one of the  grumpy oldtimers I used to laugh at way back when I was a hansum man.

you forgot Scott who was so far up his backside........however I think he liked  that, site says gone  now

Well, it looks as though I have migrated here from ASEANNOW.

i may be a Newbie here - although I signed up back in 2021 - but I have been (was?) a member of ASEANOW since 2004.  I actually found that forum to be very useful from the point of getting local information and I also contributed from time to time.  Just needed to avoid most of the discussion topics - although some of those were quite amusing at times - so as to not get involved in all the back-biting!

The forum was becoming more and more unusable - absolutely swamped with ads.  I can appreciate the need to make money but the whole thing became so unpleasant to use that the number of active members was dropping rapidly.

Trying to access ASEANNOW currently gives a different error message - something about not being able to establish a secure connection - so maybe the situation is changing.

You have no idea what I posted and without wishing to  derail this post subject, Embassy Officials have no right to extra protection from comments and criticism when they resort to a public forum.  Are you by any chance a that forum owner??

If you post on a public forum we will reply. You may not get a reply that you like.

Know anything about Rimmer (snigger) on the darkside and Charlie H (vindictive sod) ? Then there was the Thai visa mod who killed his girl friend and stuffed her in a wheelie bin, forget his name, might still be in prison

Errmm, I was replying to your post .

If YOU go off topic talking about the British Embassy , you must expect any replies to be off topic as well .

Are you sure that you got a one month ban for simply being critical ? I got over 30 bans and  the longest ban was 10 days

Onthedarkside had a mod profile and another normal profile and he posted something that wasn't correct with his normal profile , I then posted a reply telling him that he was wrong and I posted a link to back up my claim , he then logged out of his normal profile, came back as his mod profile, deleted me post and banned me for trolling and left his wrong post there .

He then followed my profile and began deleting my posts for no reason .

George found out of banned his onthedarkside profile and he isnt a mod anymore

Let's have some common sense here guys, TVF and more recently AN just like TT provided a platform for us expats around the Far East to have a voice/provide or receive information/vent frustration/have a laugh etc.

I enjoyed reading AN just like I enjoy reading this forum.

My guess is that for whatever reason it is unavailable now, it will be back.

Yes, I could be wrong and I will miss it but why all the negative comments?

Chill out and enjoy your expat life wherever you are living.

Jingthing, is that you?

Almost!

I'd like to see all the original TT members come back. For a while TT was truly vibrant. And was offering something that TV/AN did not.

I've joined the 'invision community' and only saw half a dozen posters. But to be fair, it is a VSP, rather than a full-blown forum.

If AN/TV stays down, I reckon TT will be a great platform next year.

He did me for a couple of bans.

But!!! In the early days of Warfie's  'the worst joke' he was a regular contributor. Later he became a mod and all/any humour went out the window. Turned into a very vindictive sod.

Remember Darksidedog? A very regular contributor who became a mod;;;; and!!! Never heard from him again.

There was quite a large influx of posters from TVF a few years ago , unfortunately two of the then regular posters on here were very abusive and confrontational to the new users , Colin and Yinn left and one of the abusive posters announced that he had become a moderator here and all the new posters left en masse .

He was being abusive and confrontational to all the newbies and then he changed his profile status to "moderator" and many people logged out and never came back

Moderators have a thankless task but some manage to maintain the thin line between moderator and stand up guy , TT have managed to find a decent bunch of guys, but that wasn’t always the case, they learned their lesson after the “ Trans “ guy got made up !!

Unfortunately AN refused to see the problem with their power tripping moderators ( obviously mods like Crossy and Sheryl etc are exempt from my theory ) and their heavy handed tactics brought the level of the forum right down. Recently it has been farcical with endless ridiculous topics about any subject that popped into their tiny brained heads. This, I believe, was their downfall, they went for quantity rather than quality, George was brought in to try and save Dan the Cheese’s forum but it was too late, even a topic from George discussing moderation was allowed but it, as usual, went downhill as the bickering increased.

Was it a coincidence that the forum went offline just as it was descending into a never seen before level of indecency/tediosity/uneducated nonsense or have they decided to take a break so the chavs and bogans seek refuge elsewhere ?

Well, the number of new members to Teakdoor has surely risen !!

As you have heard me moan many times 555

I am adverse to miserable expats so I steer clear of those big forums so I wouldn't know any of those people

I was just talking in general

The only big forum I've been on was Phuket-Info

And I became friends with the mods in real life

The owner of the bar had a bar in Patong we would all meet at

I met 100's of board members in person

So whenever I saw the moderators there I would buy them drinks

Those other forums

AseanNow and ThaiVisa

I've only went on to look at the Housing threads and mostly just read and I found them to have some knowledgable people in those Housing threads

But the big forum I was on was Phuket-Info and the owner had a bar in Patong

So 100's of forum members became actual friends in real life

Back in the day, during high season there would be 40/50/60 forum members in that bar

I will still be hanging out with a few of them next week in Phuket

I've met and stayed friends with 100's of people around the world

How that could be portrayed as "terrible " is foreign to me

But I don't have the personality of a baked potato, like some on here do

Met one of my closest friends in the world that I have traveled to 35+ countries with

Visited a bunch to a bunch of their countries, abling me to get a local feel

Hold on mate. You are the one that started this.  If you need to join a forum, then meet with its members,  to find your friends, I call that socially weird.   Sounds like those other Pattaya based forums, where mongers meet for joint bar runs. I call that a meeting of very weird people.

Actually I don't disagree with that and your perspective

I can see with thinking it is weird to meet off a forum or social media

So different perspective on things but I understand your point too

Although the world is social/online

The preferred method of dating is online these days so it really is just an extension of that, if you think about it

You really wouldn't understand me meeting a guy from Tik Tok this Friday in Bangkok then!   5555

He's an expat that is actually positive about things!

Although he seems to video everything so may need to toss his phone in the Chao Phraya if he sticks it in my face  😀
