That just says to me that some people are prepared to put up with anything in their elected representatives, including criminal law breaking, just so long as they delivery something they want.  That's the short road to political corruption and even dictatorship.  Politicians need to be held to at least as high a moral and law abiding standard as the general public.  The idiot Boris fails on that standard and his buffoonery is beyond acceptable.  I can name at least a dozen MPs who would have done a better Job, one of whom has just been sacked by that other nonentity, the PM and one who recently resigned as the Defence Secretary.

Which “ crimes” did BJ get convicted of then  ? None.

Having cake & beer in violation of Covid rules was a civil matter like getting a parking ticket and zero reason to remove anyone from their job……

And the correct answer to my main question of “ who else” is also None.

BJ a terrific unifier, delivered an 80 seat majority and got Brexit Done.

Nonsense.  He was fined under covid law. BJ unifies nobody;  don't you read the news?  It you want dumb buffoons' running the country, then you, and those deluded folk like you, are part of the UK's problem.  Very fortunately, I am out of the place for good, so I leave it to you lot to continue the pantomime. And it's not that the other lot aren't just as bad, as you lot will find out after the Tories are decimated in the next Election. Just to finish off, Brexit has, to date,  never been delivered.

Please. The USA is  special. Just as Italy is special. The UK parliamentary system works, and one has not seen the situation you describe in English derived parliamentary systems. As bad as the politicians may get in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada,  the rules and laws are respected, even by nationalist SNP in Scotland and BQ independentists in Canada.

Cameron's appointment is permitted. Unusual, but allowed. He is still accountable. The government which appointed him, is subject to a public mandate at election time. The reality and I doubt anyone would deny it, that this is a temporary measure until the next election. The PM needs someone experienced to get the government back on tracks. Cameron has the experience and the qualifications to do the job and I doubt anyone else as qualified would accept a 6-12 month temporary job like this.

Biden is the  legally designated President of the USA. Even  the most hardcore followers of Trump recognize that. That is all that matters. Once the US Congress certified the election,  Biden legally won the presidential election. And really, whether he won or not, the issue is not germane to the thread. In fact, Trump and MAGA have no bearing on this  subject.

I assumed you knew all that - you are like someone who doesn't think a joke is funny untill you have explained it - in other words you have missed the point -  but it further shows that you don't understand the principles of democracy go far beyond a majority vote - that is just mob rule.

Good luck with your Google - some of us know it already.

"special"??? I think not!

Let's do a bit of "reductio ad Hitlerum". -not a fallacy here though....

In the west our constitutions are NOT safe – there is a complacency amongst the general public… people love to sat others are not democratic, when the real problem lies within….

11/11/11 was remembrance day

But is  clear that people don’t seem to understand what they are remembering.

Rather than just remembering the dead, we should be remembering why they dies and how the World Wars occurred – because there are lessons to be learned that are relevant today.

There is for instance a misconception that the Nazis and there if could only have happened in Germany –“because they were Germans”

This is of course is not true and the methods used by the Nazis to come to power are still in use today by politicians all over the world, but when it’s close to home we don’t recognise it – WE need to stay awake

There’s more to democracy than a majority vote – Democracy is defined as “government of the people by the people for the people” as system that involves everyone being enfranchised. But you can’t vote the world to be flat or even vote that some in that system people can’t vote because that is intrinsically non-democratic.

However this sort of thing is happening in UK, Europe and the USA.

People have forgotten the causes of WW2 and without realising it “the people” are being gradually drawn in by the far right again…

Firstly why and how did Nazism grow in /Germany (and other countries in-between the 2 world wars.

The foundations were laid in the Treaty of Versailles which laid down draconian penalties on the German nation – The USA did not ratify this treaty and a major concern was the Disagreement over war reparations: The heavy reparations on Germany, which were intended to compensate the Allied powers for the damages they had suffered during World War I were regarded by Americans as excessive and would only serve to destabilize Germany and prolong the economic hardship caused by the war. They were right!

Many people were unemployed and struggling to make ends meet. The Nazis promised to restore economic stability and prosperity – to make Germany great again - This appealed to many people.

Nationalism - Make Germany great again The Nazis promoted a strong sense of national pride and unity. They blamed Germany's problems on scapegoats such as Jews, communists, and socialists. This scapegoating provided a simple explanation for Germany's problems and made it easy to blame others for people's misfortunes. Many current governments are using scapegoats in the same way – e.g. immigrants, those unemployed or receiving benefits, Muslims instead of Jews and xenophobia.

Charismatic leadership: Adolf Hitler was a powerful and charismatic speaker who was able to connect with people on an emotional level. He promised to make Germany great again, and his message resonated with many people who were feeling lost and disillusioned. Of course this is exactly the same as Donald Trump – and even Boris Johnson had a go at this.

The methods used by the right are all too familiar

Appealing to fear and anxiety: Right-wing politicians often use fear-mongering tactics to stir up support. E.G - Look at the language such as “hordes” wave” “tsunami” used to describe immigration,

Claims that immigrants are a threat to national security, or that Muslims are trying to take over the country. These messages are designed to make people feel afraid and insecure, and to make them more likely to support right-wing policies.

Promoting nationalism and patriotism:  “Make (your country) great again… (when was it great??)

Right-wing politicians often use nationalistic rhetoric to appeal to people's sense of patriotism. They may talk about the importance of putting "America first" or "France first," and they may use symbols such as flags or national anthems to evoke a sense of national pride. These messages are designed to make people feel good about their country and to make them more likely to support right-wing policies.

Scapegoats: Right-wing politicians often blame scapegoats for society's problems. They may claim that immigrants are responsible for crime or unemployment, or that Muslims are responsible for terrorism. These messages are designed to divide society and to make people feel that there is an "us" versus "them" mentality. This makes it easier for right-wing politicians to gain support.

The media: Right-wing governments often try to control or influence the media in order to promote their own agenda. They may do this by appointing right-wing journalists to state-run media outlets,  (e,g in the BBC Chennel 4 and the likes of Nadine Dorries -  and the new “news” stations in the UK.

Ten they pressure private media outlets to toe the line. This can make it difficult for people to get access to information that is critical of the government.

It's really hard to reduce something form 5 to 10 thousand words in an effort to make it understandable for folk like you.

But of course the sound bite or catchphrase is a favourite tool of the right - and looking at a lot of the replies on this tread, it works

And sa I said it it yet another hallmark of te right that they try to control the media - e.g put a limit on those who argue against them - QED in your post.

For someone who just peed on me in a previous post and dismissed my response as a repetition of Google, I direct your attention to the inaccuracy of your opening statements. You claim that in the west, constitutions are not safe. Nothing is safe under dire circumstances, but the reality is that  western Constitutions are very safe, and your claim is nonsensical and not based in fact. A Constitution is distinguished by its existence in one codified document. By their very creation, western constitutions are stable, because they are difficult to amend and to dissolve. In most countries the requirements for a change are onerous with a need for a super majority of states or provinces to agree. In Australia, the electorate must also approve changes in a referendum.

The farce here is that this is a thread  about the UK and you are meandering off into  a discussion of constitutions.  Every school kid who has taken a comparative politics class knows that the UK does not have a written Constitution. In plain language, how can the UK have a constitution in peril if it doesn't have one to begin with?

Your finger wagging lecture goes on with a lecture on the intent of November 11. You are adding your revisionist views. The original day was called Armistice Day for good reason as its sole intent was to mark the Armistice. After WWII, the day's  intent expanded to include remembrance  of service personnel and the victims of war. It is NOT a political event . Your demand that  " we should be remembering why they died (sic)  and how the World Wars occurred " is a politicization of an intentionally non political event. It is your interpretation of a solemn day that laid the foundation for a bunch of hooligan deadbeats to schedule  a rally attended by people who were clueless as to the intent of November 11.

Yes- school kids "knows" that - but they are WRONG! -  t those who have studied history and law know that is totally incorrect - this really just sums up your breathtaking lack of knowledge about these things which makes you perfect prey for the hard right - you are effectively laying t=yourself open to being a putz for them.

you over-simplistic responses (based apparently on one middle school history class) also would indicate you don't know the difference between a "fact" and an opinion.

Just because you think it might be right doesn't make it a "fact" - in reality in ty=your case it would suggest the opposite

You started off with the statement that western constitutions are not safe. I have explained why  they are "safe"  as can be and in the case of the UK, why there can be expected to be greater stability since there is no written singular constitution. You can't overthrow or amend, that which does not exist.

Now you are a constitutional law expert. Lovely. You join the guy from Pattaya who counts amongst his  good friends former generals and operatives in Mossad, and important political influencers in the Arab world.  It is a fact that the UK does not have a written constitution. The UK operational framework is derived from multiple laws and rules that created the institutions of the state, and set out the relationships between the institutions, the state and the citizen. Because of the interplay of so many different  laws and rules, the likelihood of a great right wing plot to sabotage a "constitution" that is not written is negligible. There is less to fear from Conservative  traditionalists in the UK than the likes of Corbyn, G. Gallo way and Choudary.

FYI: I kept trying to spell G A L L O W A Y and t kept coming back as loonyway.

I doubt it, which I why I'm in Thailand. Because I have no history here worth as damn, no emotional or cultural connection, its easier to live here and put up with its few negatives and frustrations in a way that I cannot do in my home country.  I lived in Taiwan for many years and of all the countries, I think that place is the easiest place to live.  However, its restrictive in geography and very expensive as a retirement location, but it is the place where I have been the most relaxed .

UK Constitution IS Written just Not “Codified” like US Constitution.
“The constitution of the United Kingdom is the set of rules that make up the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland as a political body. Unlike in most countries, the constitution is not codifed, but is written into thousands of statutes and court cases, and found in unwritten political conventions and social consensus. The UK Supreme Court recognises principles, that guide the constitution, including parliamentary sovereignty, the rule of law, democracy, and upholding international law. It also recognises that some  Acts of Parliament have special constitutional status.”
