Omri Morgenshtern, Agoda’s chief executive says even though the inbound search rate for Thailand on the website was 39 per cent lower than the same period in 2019, it has begun to rise since the beginning of 2022. “Thailand is leading Asia in terms of inbound tourists, but it has not yet reached 2019 levels.” Moregenshtern says it will take about three to six months for such search rates to return to pre-pandemic levels. But, he says it is […]

Tourism has a very long way to go.

This comment from a poster on another site sums up the single most important change Thailand needs to bring it back:

Discounting the general challenge of tourism now with inflation and high cost and limited flight schedules the biggest thing they could do is tell people in Thailand to stop wearing masks outside and inside only if you are high risk. The other mask wearing countries aren't letting their people travel so that means Singapore, Australia, India, Malaysia, US and EU are the focus countries for tourists. Very few people are going to leave a relaxed environment in regards to masks and covid precautions and go on vacation to one with higher levels.

But we all know tourism is still struggling immensely in Thailand.

Thailand is coming back slowly, but the posters comments accurately capture a key challenge.

Attaching that comment to this article makes zero sense, sorry

The article is about the fact Thailand leads Asia in tourism

The comment says people are focusing on Singapore, Malaysia

When, again, Thailand, leads them in tourism

But the comment got one aspect correct, which I think is the leading factor in a slow rebound

Much less flights to Thailand, and Asia overall

PS....I went to Mexico when there was an outdoor mask mandate and 20+ million had travelled there with a mask mandate

It has nothing to do with masks, as much as the mask brigade want to make it out to be so.....
