News Forum - Thailand’s Tourism Authority reminds visitors of current anti-smoking laws
I would like to remember that places like Nana Plaza or Patpong are private adult venues, no underage gusts allowed. The non smoking law does only apply partially in the open. They are not sport activity place or a kids playground. banning smoking inside the gogo bars will also ban the high spending customer from China and Japan. they are the big spender there not the "farangs" tourists. For those East Asian countries smoking + drinking = fun. Fun = spending money and counting as long as the fun in great and lasts long. The bar "employees" are professional in treating these guests very well and giving them a lot fun. And btw it smoking or not in there does not affect you as you do not frequent those places -

News Forum - Phuket looks to entice more low-cost Saudi flights
Yes the topic is about more flight. But in my opinion, this is a bad ide looking to encourage more flights from the KSA. However. It seems we need to agree to disagree. Your view of encouraging repressive regimes by allowing their citizen to have a normal life and mine, are at opposite ends of the spectrum. The whole point about different countries requiring varying visa requirements, all the way to imposing travel bans, is how you signal diplomatically to countries like the KSA -

News Forum - Thai police admit extorting money from Taiwanese actress
My Thai GF who is also a Norwegian Citizen constantly complains about Thailand and its corruption. I repeatedly point out to her that the corruption here is more like Mexico where the standard operating procedure is in the form of an envelope stuffed with cash. I am from the USA and I can guarantee there is equally corruption there but typically at the highest levels of government not the lowest. The corruption is more than a few thousand baht, it is for millions of U.S. dollars and comes hidden in sweetheart real estate deals, rigged cattle future deals or the best one. Presidential foundations that allow those who wish to buy influence to legally pour millions into the foundation where of course it is siphoned off as expenses to run the foundation. I don't care what country it is, so long as you have others in a position of power and in many cases in control of "other peoples money" you will have corruption. In major cities in the USA it is well known you have to grease the wheels of government officials to get permits for your project. In 2013 four of the previous 7 governors of the state of Illinois went to prison for crimes including mail fraud, extortion, wire fraud, bribery etc. with Rod Blagojevich being the most celebrated for attempting to sell to the highest bidder Barrack Obama's vacated senate seat. Here is a link of just some of the most celebrated in the USA. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/08/11/six-most-corrupt-states/ While it is sad it happens in Thailand it is completely wrong to think somehow it purely a problem associated with being Thai.- 1
