He doesnt know, he is the sort of guys who even want to explain your children born and raised in Thailand with Thaipassport about Thailand and how he knows it better while he is not living in Thailand.

Wrong! Live here legally.  My children are both dual citizens so no problem.

You have me mixed-up with someone else, I'm afraid. But, I  found most Australians and Kiwis to be good people. My nickname isn't troll either that nickname is exclusively to a fruit drop relative.

No where even close. I'm American but Thailand is my adopted country. Our children are both dual national, but live in USA. Both are professionals in their fields of study, but like to visit here.

Covid has been hard because travel hasn't been possible.

Easy to call someone lse a troll, when in fact that's what you're doing, by asking indirectly where I was from.

I initially came to Thailand to do graduate study medical research. That was many years ago, but I've maintained friendships with my former colleagues.

I sense that you falsely feel superior to the Australians, which is a shame. Probably feel the same with Americans.  Your loss.

I agree but remember the time before covid khao san road the islands with the full moon parties you saw restaurants, bars, clubs full packed and spending money. So I was referring what we experienced in Thailand and compare the spendings to this bus tours we experienced.

So the backpackers are mama's boys and rely on mama for money. What about personal responsibility.

What about the ones they are building illegally in the man made extended islands in the South China Sea? They also have military presence in Myanmar and Tajikistan

Add Pakistan also.

Exactly. Just because they are only starting on this crusade doesn’t make them any less dangerous. The mistake the West made was in thinking that including them in the global market and being a part of the international community back in the 1980’s,  they would somehow comply with international norms. No chance. Dangerous!

Yes, because China would back Prayut remaining in power even if elected out of office.

Maybe only in the short term. But in the longer term they won't support anyone who choose to maintain a system or regime so much differant and against their own principles of governance and control.

Look at what's going on next door. The junta are shopping Russia and China. Both are salivating at being able to provide arms and technical support to the military. It tells you something about what would happen here. No country suppresses personal freedom more completely and effectively than China.

I agree with you, almost. That is exactly why I say the Chinese will not allow peanut to run a regime as it is now for the benefit of anybody other than the state, which is not what happens now.

How do they do that?

I guess the troll was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and didn't have to work like the rest of us.

And while he most likely has his breakfast on a mirror and looks down on those of us that worked our way through tertiary education and didn't have the finances to afford 5 star hotels and champagne dinners that Prayut wants to see dirty falang indulging in, we had the opportunity to travel on a journey that  bought us far closer to the locals than any top dollar tourist would ever have.

Years later these undesirable backpackers are now professionals staying in nice hotels and spending far more but even on their tight budgets as younger people they had a chance.

Poor Thai's rarely had this chance in life and with mindsets like Prayut neither low budget Thais or westerners will have that chance to do it independently. They will be shoveled into and out of tour buses and never get to truly see the nation they visited.

A personal word of thanks to you  Stardust from those of us that worked F+cking hard from poorer lower middle class families to get to where we are now.

In closing I want to see those that regard backpackers as low budget trash ask Thai people in Khao San and many others around the country who's livelihood is dependent on backpackers! What do they think?

And Thailand has a festival culture full moon parties, all these Isan festivals where you see a lot of Thai and foreign backpackers who like to enjoy and spending money. I guess many would be surprised how much money comes in festivals or where these crowds are. It must be people who not know a lot about Thailand and what business they make and they woukd surprised how much money they spend in Khao san road and daily full packed that it was difficult to walk through because of the amount of people there. The Bangkokians know what I am talking about.

What your describing is foreign culture taking place in Thailand.  Sure some Thais participate but these are event for foreigners. These things are held for falangs. The Khao San road is similar in that it was a foreign hang out but not a place that would otherwise attract Thais.

Songkran otherwise is a Thai holiday along with Loi Kratong. Thai are fun loving and go along to make some money, but the origins of what you are talking about isn't Thai.

You are talking totally out of your backside.  @Stardust stated this;

"And Thailand has a festival culture full moon parties, all these Isan festivals"

So for you to finish your statement with "but the origins of what you are talking about isn't Thai"  is complete and utter nonsense if you are saying that Isan festivals are not Thai..

My you have posted some incorrect statements on here recently but that one must take the biscuit for being the height of absurdity

Chinese visitors in Thailand

Chinese visitors have an average length of stay of 8 days and spending per person of up to 41,390 Baht or 1,100 euros.

Welcome to the present day.

Granted but how much of that is spent with Chinese owned companies? The money is being spent in Thailand but not actually with Thais. Isn’t that the entire point, much of the spending isn’t actually benefiting Thais and Thailand. Hence the term “zero dollar tourism”.
