The military will have their turn at trying to act like a democratic government. Think of General Prayut, used to given orders and having them carried out, without arguement or interference. Now he has to follow the protocols and deal with non military people, who don't do what they're told, when they're told! It must annoy the hell out of him. But that's what you get, when you try to run a country like an army. Unless your the CCP or Kim Jong Un...it doesn't work.

Nor does it work running Thailand as your own personal moneybox which is exactly what it has become for decades upon decades except for the period when Thaksin was in charge as a truly elected PM and government and simply not a puppet what the military leaders are.

There are a lot more Thais than soldiers. It's China I would be worried about. Looking to make military bases in Thailand.

China has one (1) overseas military base. In Djibouti.

The US has 798.

And Thailand should be worried about China?

If the man was in the British Army, the only way he would see the inside of the Officer's Mess, would be as a private on jangkers!

People don’t want a “New Normal”, they just want Normal.

Thailand had a winning formula up until the pandemic. Even adding in the TAT weighting factor, Thailand attracted around 30-35million genuine foreign tourists (ignore the 40 nonsense!).  It contributed 10%-15% of GDP worth around 1.5-2 Trillion baht. It was continuing to grow and was certainly sustained. They just need to get vaccinated. Scrap the paper trail and move on with NORMAL. Stop messing with your brand value Thailand.

What about the ones they are building illegally in the man made extended islands in the South China Sea? They also have military presence in Myanmar and Tajikistan

You can never have a new Thailand when all people do is worship money.

All the Ad campaigns in the world are not going to change the human nature of wanting money.

The average Thai cannot equate niceness and caring with money (tips).

Scammers are abound everywhere and they could care less about some new advertising campaign.

The mentality of the people will never change to allow it to be a first class vacation site.

Now throw in all the pollution, trash dumped every, dirty beaches, tons of plastics in the water.

Has anything actually changed or just the mind set the government needs tourist dollars?

Correct @TukTuk  You don’t change a mindset last generations by an advertising campaign. Money number 1 is ingrained in every aspect of Thai life. It would take many more generations to change this, even assuming they wanted to.

We foreigners should enjoy Thailand for what it is as best we can. It hasn’t changed in the 25+ years I’ve been going there. The skyline has changed. They have new infrastructure and new technology just as many countries do. The mindset is still the same.

Dear Thai P.M. I hope you did not spend all your time in Glasgow talking to Boris (Johnson) about the girlie bars in Pattaya, and instead focused your mind on the burn and slash policy that your government seems to conveniently ignore, and which causes mass air-pollution and untold suffering throughout the land, from Chiang Mai to Bangkok.

Footnote: The guy who spoke about girls being greedy was probably referring to beer bars and Go-go bars where girls try to get the client to buy them one - a drink that is at inflated prices, (allegedly.)

Yes but as he wanted to fit in and even though he didn't know what its true meaning was, you could here him saying to Joe: The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain.

I assumed the first thing the PM would be saying to everyone is "Where U from"..Where u go? U speak thai?

There's no known or reliably reported Chinese military presence in Myanmar - it's on the border, on the Chinese side.

The presence in Tajikistan is unclear, but at the most it's a joint base if Chinese funded and primarily observers.

Minimal, and a tiny fraction of one percent of the US's even including the small bases in the SCS.

There are ~5+ times as many Thai's living in the States, than western expats living in Thailand. Do you ever wonder why so many Thai people left and can afford to live in the USA?

Desperate American blokes took them there, where most promptly fled along with their green card.

Article quote: Then they marched out the usual trope they’ve been proclaiming for years: Thailand needs to stop worrying about bringing in the most travelers and instead focus on quality tourists, leaning again on the government’s penchant for attempting to wrangle a few rich tourists instead of millions of backpackers and travelers they consider low-quality.

The sooner all of these Junta jerks, the elite, the hob knobbing Thai socialites, the convicted drug trafficker, and silver spoon engineer moonlighting as a Health minister are made to leave, the sooner Thailand can recover and get back to its normal way of life. There is nothing new and positive being pushed, but just the contrary as negative and destructive. One would consider them to be low quality snobs.

And the clowns not even were in any high end destinations in europe or around the world. Only Clowns not understand differences in standards and infrastructure. Sure from now the street vendors become 5 star restaurants. And just imgaine how many hotels are in Thailand somebody must really dumb like hell and an incompetent Cliwn to think you can fill them all with high end tourists and all hotels become a star accomidation. This Clownsnot even realize that everybody who is able to think how dumb they are to talk such nonsense.

You might be surprised how many are Thai only families live in the US. Drive expensive cars, own nice houses and their own businesses.

If they can can do this as keeping all other tourists and the normal people who want to stay here out, then it is going to hurt a huge huge portion of the Thai folk. 50%? 70%? 80%? Can you imagine how many businesses will fold? My thought is they will create a double standard and allow the Chinese to come in.

You mean the zero budget bus tours with lowest quality tourists on earth who never left one baht in a restaurant. Every backpacker spent much more money in their vaction then them. This are the low end of tourism and you will never see them in any quality tourist destination around the world because they are a nightmare for any tourist destination.
