Not boycotting as PRC  is a dictatorship, the 'people' have no power regards PRC foreign policy. Boycott of PRC trade as an individual is only a meaningless gesture. It is our governments decision whether  to implement a trade embargo which would equally damage our economies e.g. Australia and USA.

 

At this point in time there is not any empirical evidence PRC deliberate spread Covid as an attack on the West, your claim is currently a scream in space.

Personally I prefer products made in the local country (if outside China) compared to ones "Made in China" or "Made in Taiwan". Sometimes there is no other option if you must buy for an immediate need.

I think it's time that everyone doesn't care what China thinks or cries foul on and stand right back up to this evil giant. Taiwan is definitely its own country and openly shows that they are not China's dog or owned property or puppet. They only want want want and take take take. Their massive fishing fleet is devastating the world's fisheries and this is a shame that needs to be stopped as well. Hong Kong is a dead issue now. They have fully absorbed it and this is another total shame and I feel so sorry for the good Hong Kong people. Should have also been its own country as well.

I don't mind made in Taiwan products if from a reputable company. Taiwan I can support, even have done business with them and would do again as really super nice people.

Back on topic, the Chinese bought the MG brand name way back in I think 2006, something like that, electric rides back then were just a dream for them, they bought the British MG mark to use as a lever to sell Chinese stuff.

MG was the performance wing of Morris Garages, now don't keep dodging the question, what performance rides has Chinese MG put out there in the time they have owned and produced cars..?

I like Chinese women and food to much! Crazy ,I never even thought about politics and China until the Vietnam crisis. Even then it was the just the CCP and communism,that turned to a passive distrust!

Later on ,I dealt with many Chinese when I was in the jewelry business .My opinion was that they are extremely shrewd business partners but that’s any where in the world.

I actually experienced how easy it was for them to copy a product ,mass produce and market it in the states !

Since 2001 when they joined the WTO ,they have with the help of all western parties made a killing! All of them!

So true - I was in IT for 30+ years and they copied/stole a lot of western IT stuff.  Not only do they re-brand and sell it back to us, they re-brand and sell it to their own internal growing market. China has taken the west for a ride and they have many western Pollies mad Govt people in their pockets. It is absolutely unbelievable how they have gotten away with it, and used their new found wealth to manipulate support, and they are still doing it.

It’s mind-boggling really how many people in China are employed in a job based around copying and stealing “western stuff”. As we know, the government can’t/won’t crack down on it because tens of millions of jobs would go down the tubes. 

And we as consumers can’t realistically boycott the practice because it would hit us in the hip pocket. Vicious cycle.

Apple could quite easily stop selling & manufacturing iPhones in China if they truly gave a hoot about their 'American values'. All clothing companies could quite easily source their cotton from other countries that don't put all their muslims in concentration camps.

Trouble is, they all care too much about their profits to make any change and we all want cheaply manufactured goods. We're all to blame.

I hear you and mostly agree.  The unfortunate fact about doing business in China is that many businesses were 'compelled' and encouraged to do so.  If you didn't know, it is a legal requirement for all Executives and Board members of a company to ensure the ongoing profitability of a business. When China became a legal member of the WTO and 'signed off' on the rules and regulations (which they since have ignored), the ability to get a product made in China at 10% (or less) of the costs of making it in USA could no longer be 'legally' ignored.  That, plus all the 'incentives' offered, meant that most production in the West went to China. Hard to argue with it when you are given tax breaks and incentives, because China is now an WTO member with an 'emerging status' economy that they all wanted to grow.  People with opposing views at the time that all started (like me) were shut down and called racists and ignorant old school fools etc - and businessmen were falling all over themselves to make lots of money - especially from USA - it was a stampede.   Now it is almost 40 years later since it all started (mid-80s) - and all the people involved who made the wrong decision are gone. Most have taken the money and long since retired/dead - and many more take the money now.  Organisations like UN, EU, WHO, Olympics, etc etc etc are all 'influenced' by China - they have their fingers in nearly every pie - all through using our own money against us.
