A lifelong city boy I understood the facts that the rice farming industry in Thailand has some problems and that the Rice Department has a plan to eleviate som of those problems... I googled and came up with SRI System of Rice Intensification. This is a very detailed article about the system which was birthed in the 1980's. For goodness sake you people, do give it a rest. There is more to living, forums and the meaning of life than banging on about Covid at every turn and blaming it for everything, including car accidents, teen pregnancy, power shortages, meteorites, green algae in my swimming pool, high air fares, doors coming off Boeings, the Mrs.'s mood swings, the dogs piles, my piles, the cats grumps. Come on, move on and stop introducing it into every post, regardless of the subject under discission. -

Chinese Traditional Medicine
First a plea, please do not hijack this post subject by banging on about Covid. plenty of other posts are boring the crap out of many of us by doing that. let's for once move on from there to other areas of health. Bit of background; my First Degree, obtained very many years ago from Nottingham Uni in the UK, is in Biochemistry. You would expect a certain cynicism about alternative Chinese Medicine from such as I, but I have been a follower, and user, of such medicines for many years. Living for a few years in Hong Kong and Taiwan helped the exposure to this branch of health. I have treated colds, ( not Covid!) , sore throats, tummy issues and lately gout, arthritis and back pain, all with alternative Chinese medicine sources. In general, I have found them as effective as traditional medications and in some cases, with the arthritis , more helpful. I would be interested in the experience of others who take this approach. As an aside, I exclude acupuncture, which I think is a scam, but others may have had more positive experiences with it. -

News Forum - Thailand schools advised to halt in-person teaching during extreme heat
Having a university degree has been a requirement for some time now. The first half of April is predicted to bring intense heat, particularly affecting regions such as the northeast, north, central plains, and east. This period coincides with the commencement of the 2024 school term, thus raising notable concerns. Error? That must be, because it's off by a month. And while the first half of April has already passed, the school term doesn't commence generally until May. climate expert Associate Professor Seree Supratid highlighted the exacerbating effects of global warming. He stated that the annual duration of the hottest period in Bangkok could potentially escalate from 17 days to 80 days, particularly between March and May. While I am sure this is what they guy said, it is worth noting that between March and May would mean that period has already passed, as the beginning of May would be the end of that period. Often this period is referred to as April. Keeping large numbers of students studying remotely doesn't seem to be much better than allowing them to attend school, except for those with families that can afford air conditioning.
