The money would be better spent bribing the police to enforce helmet laws. -

60 Day Tourist Visa at Penang?
If you go to this link of theirs: https://penang.thaiembassy.org/th/publicservice/114491-visa-requirements-i You will see what you need for the visa type you are seeking. Word of advice, use the application form they provide, I've seen them get shirty if you aren't using the "Penang" one, even though it's the same application as other embassies and consulates. -

60 Day Tourist Visa at Penang?
It is crazy but indeed the Thai eVisa system is such that you are only allowed to apply for an e-Visa when you are at moment of application in your home-country. But of course you can apply in person for a 'regular non-e' Visa at Thai embassies/consulates in other countries that provide such Visa. But it will depend on the TYPE of Visa you want to apply for, at which Thai Embassy/Consulate such Visa is available to apply for. And on top of that the REQUIREMENTS and PROCEDURE can differ enormously depending on WHERE you apply. There are some peculiarities re the process to apply for a Visa at the Penang consulate. Do clarify WHICH specific Visa you want to apply for, and WHY that one (as you might be eligible for other type Visa that you are not aware of). -

baked beans, price is ridiculous, Im done buying them
I, too, look for healthier alternatives due to my own concerns but regardless, Ayam brand beans are just terrible. Terrible. Making my own would be the better alternative. And I'd use Himalayan pink salt and monkfruit sweetener to bring those numbers down even more. I bought a quality, old-style pressure cooker (Seagull brand) a couple of years ago and it has made a huge difference in my bean preparation. I highly recommend getting one, rather than one of those really expensive do-everything-but-blow-you electric gizmos. -

Trying to get a copy of a Thai Birth Certificate.
Great to hear of your wife's milestone in this journey. Congratulations to her. The sentence of yours, that I quoted, is perhaps one of the most confusing for us Westerners, as our countries have the same rules, regardless of which consulate or embassy you visit. I help my wife, who works with people applying for visas from various countries around the world, where they might be working at the time - all coming to Thailand for exactly the same job with the same employer - and can't count the number of differences we've encountered from one country (that doesn't make use of the evisa) to another. While I found it frustrating, at the beginning, I've now just come to the conclusion that good organization is just not in the DNA of those that work for this government and I play by their consistently shifting rules, because it's the only way to get things done.- 1
