Allow a military government to stay in power and rights, privileges and voices gradually disappear until you live in a totalitarian dictatorship.

Wouldn't they first have to understand what 'ethics' is?  Never gonna happen

Well, there IS a free and honest election approaching rapidly... we can't possibly let anything detrimental to our caring and honest military junta be printed that would sway the vote away from them, could we?

Whilst agree with you, the problem is not only confined to military dictatorships. In My home country, a western democracy, free media has come under attack in recent times, with politicians invoking the same defamation laws.

Yep, those hard earned freedoms can be taken away in the blink of eye or they can be chipped away at so that you don’t even know it’s happening….

Totally agree with that. However, while I wouldn’t advocate any form of censorship with the media, I do think in many western countries, there is not enough care taken with the balance of negative and positive news. Here in the U.K., the media is totally negative. Even good news is often wrapped up in warnings about the negative future outlook. They then have the nerve to run stories about the rise in mental health problems. They don’t see that they play a significant role in mental health issues.
