No. I live in a complex hypocritical malevolent world though thankfully not under tyranny. Where everyone is assumed to act in self - interest. Standards and Rules of Life must therefore be set and maintained. Indeed, Perception is Everything and Reputation is All. Two of the Strongest Rules of Life along with Rule One “ Never Outshine The Master”. Robert Powell book. Of course the right not to give a shite is always reserved. Harmful Toxic People and Ideas must be screened out for sake of sanity and safety. Nothing sub- standard is left unscreened / unchallenged in “my world”, unless that is likely to bring a greater harm. For example, in the tv series Breaking Bad, the restaurant owner tells a customer that if he complains, owner will torture and kill the customers whole family, then him. I imagine no complaint would be forthcoming. -

No sympathy for anyone with that much of a problem with debt. I’m certain that she’s just one of many who live well above her means because she feels “Entitled”. New car every other year, private school for children, keeping up with the other wannabes. Pathetic. Did she really think that borrowing “more” money at exorbitant rates was going to fix her problems. And her solution…..banks shouldn’t do financial back-ground checks on “borrowers”. What a piece of work. -

Secretary Kissinger did not initiate nor oversee Operation Menu. It was an extension of an operation initiated by the previous President Johnson administration. A secretary of state does not have the authority to initiate or to oversee a military operation. Kissinger was one of the people who supported the strategy, yes, but he had neither the expertise not knowledge, despite having been a WWII veteran. The bombing campaign was a carryover strategy from WWII, so something a man like Kissinger had seen before and could even believe in because it had worked previously. It was expected that this would soon dislodge the Vietnamese troops who had occupied Cambodia. The fact that the bombing failed to do what it was supposed to accomplish is another issue. There is a large group who argue that the bombing encouraged North Vietnamese resilience and turned the Cambodian population against the USA and South Vietnam. There is also the reality that with every successful mission, North Vietnamese and Viet Cong personnel were eliminated and their ordinance and equipment destroyed, thereby saving the lives of the South Vietnamese and US forces. I have not argued that the ends justify the means, nor did Dr. Kissinger. The issues here are not so lofty as to require deep philosophical reflection. He was a human, with flaws and he could make errors. Wise people observe that moral choices are often a selection of the lesser of evils. I offer that some of Dr. Kissinger's policy decisions were just that. Nixon, Kissinger and others are blamed for the outcome of the Vietnam war, and yes indeed their policies were not ideal. However, they reflected attitudes and views of the American people. Blaming the politicians and diplomats allows an escape of responsibility. Had the Nixon administration accepted defeat in Vietnam outright, there would have been mass protests, and an uprising in Congress. The war may have been unpopular with young people, but there was no way that the overall US population would accept a cut and walk away. Look what happened when president Obama wanted to cut losses and walk away from the debacle of Afghanistan. Factions accused him of terrible plots and of disloyalty. Yes, Dr. Kissinger made some mistakes and even the way in which he went about trying to achieve the stated policy goal(s) were questionable). Unfortunately, international diplomacy is anything but ethical and one must sometimes accept an erosion of principle in order to maintain peace. I am not privy to all the secrets of his decisions, and time will tell, but it seems to me that his his successes outweighed his failures.- 1

News Forum - Thailand’s weekly Covid-19 cases surge over 500 with three fatalities
The vaccine peak efficacy is approximately 6 months, similar to that of the flu vaccine. As the benefits of the previous inoculations wear off during holiday season, we will see a surge in the number of infections with complications. Add to that the foreign carriers bringing in new variants for the holiday season and I expect that there will be a spike in the number of infections around mid January. The problem that arises is that Thais rush to hospitals with outpatient manageable illnesses and expect magic potions and pills to cure illnesses that can resolve naturally in a few days. (Westerners can be just as bad.) If there is an exponential type growth, as in the past, the hospital system may become overwhelmed for a period of time. I will not be surprised if a mask mandate returns even if it is for a short period as the government will need to show it is doing something.
