The ABC (government owned TV) in Australia has interviewed people in Moscow and certainly younger Russians were not happy about. They were shocked and very concerned about sanctions and international travel being restricted for them. The just said they don't understand why this has happened.

He is nervous. He knows NATO could easily wreck his invasion,. He also knows he has enough troops to take Ukraine but not enough to hold and control it. He knows because Russia is in the last stages of a demographic collapse, he only has one shot at whatever his actual objective is to succeed. He’s nervous because if Ukraine puts up too much of a fight, he could lose too much of what’s left of the Russia army for decades to come. It’s a bigger roll of the dice than it appears at first. He should be nervous.

Unfortunately the Russian view of nukes differs from that in the West, we see them as a strategic deterrent, they see them as a tactical weapon. If pushed to the point where they think they will lose or where they have no other means to strike back they will not hesitate to use them.

The Chinese banks will open the cheque books to Russia. It will go some way to helping the banks to their over exposure from the construction bubble collapse in China. So long as Russia is able to pay it back.

Yes I watched that and you may say he has every right to look apprehensive about what he's done as besides the economic ruin he will bring on Russia there is talk already on indicting him as a war criminal ..

I am that ordinary person from Russia.  This morning was unexpected for most.  Everyone expects prices to rise.  believe me, most in Russia do not care about EU visas, only 10% travel the world.  

official media report that only the military infrastructure of Ukraine is being destroyed.  Friends in Ukraine confirm this.  

The military forces of the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR, with fire support from the Russian army, are attacking Ukrainian positions, as far as I understand, the goal is to reach the borders of the regions of these regions in 2014.  

Apparently, the Russian leadership is counting on the uprisings of people in the Russian-speaking regions of Ukraine and on the support and expulsion of the Ukrainian administration from these areas.

Do ordinary Russians support this military action? With the American sanctions aren't you worried you will not get to buy Iphones anymore?

So why have troops crossed the border from Belarus? 

Thats nowhere near Donbass.

I imagine there are high level military advisors in the Ukraines command center as we speak. Giving advice on how to prosecute the war it is now faced with.

There are no ground troops though that may change.

Putin either wins quick or loses everything.

My money is on him being toast.

Russian society is especially heterogeneous, if you draw in large strokes, the situation is as follows:

30% are apolitical, they don’t care, they care about money, games, tik-tok and Instagram;  

20% support Putin and the entire decision;  

10% are imperial patriots, some of them support Putin;  

20% hate Putin and are oriented to the West;  

20% Socialist Communists and other Bolsheviks, some of them, oddly enough, support Putin

As a result, we get about 25-35% of Putin's support.

iPhones are mostly used by the middle class. And he is not very numerous. They will probably be upset, but most don't care - Chinese phines are about 50-60%
