When I put Pattaya on Agoda for a booking exactly a month from now, it shows me 2,800 hotels, from the 9,100 they have in their database. Perhaps that says it all.

Yes many big hotels are still closed. Most of the bigger in hotels in jomtien closed and itvseams not they open soon. The maintanance first, (loans) and operating costs would be too much risk as long the Clowns and TAT are in charge.

Thais will line up for anything given out for free needed or not, even the well off. Open the bars, clubs and real massage places, keep the brothels, bars employing prostitutes and pay for sex massage shops closed. Good opportunity to clean the place up once and for all.

Yes, I think some Christian values are needed.

Sure a new pattaya will fall from the sky, a Singapore. You are for sure not talking about Thailand, comprehensive, thinking is not yours. You seem to have a mindset of a little kid. And who told them not to do so already . The last thing Thailand needs are a kids club and Clowns at the moment!

For this you need money and a plan. I don't know how much you know about Thailand but it's at least short on the first and the second they never had... so I'm really struggling with what you say about prostitution as it doesn't exist 🤣.

I'm actually quiet for the opposite but perhaps even this isn't needed and again this need money and a plan.
Pattaya could just be bulldozered (I mean, place whom won't return back to business at all) and there was some building already that will never be finished, perhaps built a Casino there legalize gambling in this place booming national tourism will come afterwards. In regards to prostitution just like weed legalize it has been the way forward according to many many many other countries around the world.

I don't expect this to lead to a plan by somebody influential enough to get this arranged. They can claim that they made it up themselves. I don't care.

Sure thats why families are seen in Pattaya sleeping outside because it is common. By the way did you ever experienced the difference between Thailand and Singapore and how Singapore is managed. Can I ask you how old are you and does your parents allow you to use the internet?

Pattaya is done and the falangs that invested their retirement saving in the bar business will be or are destitute now. Some of the Thai places might survive if they were side investments. Whatever and good riddance because Pattaya may reinvent as a place decent people, both Thai and foreigners will want to go to.

As for the Thais that were being employed there, they'll find better opportunities.  At least now some have some English language skills, if they can learn to filter of the trash talk.

What you want in Pattaya if you not care they lost their jobs and staying in huge lines in Pattaya. You are fir sure not welcomed in Pattaya especially not from Thais there!

You mean like the Inquisition, no birth control allowed, kiddy fiddlers everywhere, that kind of Christianity and its values?

I think TAT is naive to have introduced those restrictions and medical insurance etc that have turned off many potential visitors. Wealthy Indians and other nationalities would not regard Thailand to be the top tourist paradise to visit. I believe that TAT would fail to achieve its endeavour unless they return to resort to the previous regulations.

In the situation of Pattaya it sounds like a sacarsm your comment also with the sufferings and struggle the country is in since a while.

And just compare it with high end destinations or other destinations in the world. Or if you take India the regulations, restrictions in near by high end destinations or destinations there are a lot, too.

You really do write by far the rudest, most unpleasant, abusive and completely uninformed comments here.

That isn't argumentative, but a simple fact.

Singapore has long had what you complain about the most - a racist, draconian and dictatorial government that brooks no opposition or reform, that not only promotes but demands conformity.

If that's what you want, fine - but it's hypocritical in the extreme to rant against it in Thailand while applauding it elsewhere.

I don't disagree with you, but other countries in the region have introduced similar or stronger restrictions - while places like the Seychelles and the Maldives haven't they've considerable other issues instead as a result of their Covid policies for tourists and Thailand hasn't lost tourists to them in any measurable amount - the numbers simply don't make that possible.

Agreed absolutely, @Pinetree, and your post was a very fair personal observation. Pattaya needs to change as times change, just as everywhere else does.

I don't object to downmarket 'beer bars', but their customers have been dying out for a decade - Covid has simply been another, albeit rather large, nail in the coffin.

Thank you for that.  I firmly believe, as I think do the Pattaya  Authority, that Covid, bad as it is in the short term,  has provided the City with a once in a generation chance to change its outlook, ambitions and reputation. I think that in this, they are supported by the National Government. Its going to be hard going, but I wish the City and its people all success.

People come to Pattaya for the nightlife, period. There is little reason to otherwise. Beaches are better elsewhere. You risk your health going into the water. Tourist attractions are few and second rate. The city is a bit run down and grimy. It’s not where you go to see the real Thailand. It’s a city built by and for fun, nothing wrong with that every country has at least one (Las Vegas comes to mind). The numbers will remain anemic until they reopen the entertainment and start serving alcohol. Until then, we wait or visit somewhere else.

I'm sure the beaches and environment will get better now that Pattayas focus won't  be on the bar trade and sleaze.  It may take time but it's bound to improve.

Pattaya was a bubble waiting to burst (some would call it a zit).

The city has a lot of potential if it changes direction, with the big investment already there in terms of hospitals, restaurants, decent hotels, tourist attractions, shopping malls, golf courses, sports facilities, etc, that make it ideal as a retirement destination and for domestic tourism.

All that's needed is for the beaches to be cleaned up and the grubbier bars to go along with the endemic corruption - it was simply living, or more accurately surviving, in the past. Some bars will survive and cater for those who want them, just as they do in Phuket and Chiang Mai, but they and sleaze just won't dominate any more.

If Pattaya can now shrug off that past it can move on, like a phoenix, and Covid is the catalyst and not the problem.

The last thing the country needs is a return of the sex tourists, the drunks and the perverts. Despite what the defenders of the sex trade like to think there are alternative employment opportunities and the trade is not a massive part of tourist revenue over all. Of course there will always be defenders of this criminal activity and depravity, with all it's associated physical and mental health problems, drug and drink abuse as well as traffiking and pimping.

To do what? Visit a bad beach, how about swim in polluted waters? Oh maybe see those ancient ruins or the amazing scenery? Even the Thais only go to Pattaya to party. You want to do something else, you go somewhere else.

Nothing to do with religion, it's about moving the City forward away from being one big brothel and a national embarrassment.

Abstinence & prayer will solve all the problems.

First of all what country you are talking about and who is responsible for trafficking?! It seams you never lived, worked or know something about Thailand. You think this kind of establishments you are talking is something only exists in Pattaya or is because of tourism. It seams you know nothing about Thai culture and mistresses or sometimes called 2nd wifes or do you ever been in the countrysides in karaoke bars, beer gardens where no tourists are. Did you ever been in Bangkok but I not mean the tourist areas. And who told them not to make nice beach resort cities instead? And who want to go a club or listen live music and drink a beer or red wine in a restaurant is a defender of sex trade? You are talking like a little kid and not able to think. So I ask you again can you tell us how old you are?

It will mean many days of drinking & fornicating to understand the problems.
