If you look at the daily pcr figures they are dropping. Average 50 a day.

Partly due to vaccines I'd say, along with other aspects.. 

people went to hospital because they felt quite sick and had pcr test that were recorded.. now many have milder symptoms (possibly vaccines helping) and tested with atks ..(not recorded)

There are still people in covid care centres, hospitels and Community isolation (stay at home) .

The sandbox arrivals are not recorded within the pcr daily figures but in a different counting system just for sandbox.. however 3 expats tested positive this week affter being here longer than the 2 or 3 weeks holiday and the government has decided now to add these to the official pcr totals..(Sorry not have link to this but was on a thai site gf showed me)

Also my friends who own bars restaurants and massage shops are testing their staff weekly and if any staff are found infected then they tell them to go home and isolate for 10 days and take a retest before being allowed back to work.. these don't get recorded because the shops don't want to be closed down for 10 days having the floors washed! 

The official totals are about 50% or less of the actual numbers and the way the partying is going on here I'm very surprised it's not getting worse

Agreed, @Malc-Thai, but the problem is that while there may be no sign of "an increase of people dying from covid in Phuket related to this" as @Manu said, how about those 'dying from Covid NOT in Phuket related to this'?

Even with the travel restrictions into Phuket (but not out), people travel and people around Phuket are increasingly going to go there for bars and nightlife. and while many may be fully vaccinated in Phuket plenty outside Phuket aren't and many who are aren't yet vaccinated with anything that's effective.

I agree ..I was just highlighting how busy it's actually getting here and covid has not gone away.. there are cars here from all over Thailand as far up as Don thani and Chiang mai.. the issue I was trying to point out that people self isolating and these won't ever be recorded or in monitored quarantine. And with the vaccines here many don't get tested because they don't feel as unwell as before the vaccine rollout..

Then home they go after thier break..yes they have to be vaccinated to come here along with the tourists  .. but as you said they got to go back home to many unvaccinated areas friends and family.

It only takes one match to light a fire..

Agree with you absolutely, a million per cent, @Malc-Thai.

It's not the international tourists that are the problem, as I've been saying for months, but everything that attracts tourists - bars, nightlife, socialising, no masks, and above all travel.

They're just the catalyst, nothing else.

Wonder if this is indeed an attempt to deter tourists coming to bangkok solely to party/drink/go to bars etc. to promote the governments attempt to attract wealthy tourists/investors/digital nomads to come to Thailand. 

 

wonder if these rules are even enforced, lots of friends told me they were out at bars drinking up until the early AM hours in bangkok, they’ve been going out almost every night since November

Bangkok and Pattaya are both cities. Since when has the island of Phuket been classified as a City ? Its a Province for goodness sake so if the figure as I'm sure Phuket town does not see 11 million visitors.

You do see them occasionally, but they are more usually found in BKK, where there are a few bars with Japanese speaking Mamasans that cater to them.

Most Japanese (in Japan) have never even heard of Pattaya. Si Racha and Rayong would be better known. There’s a place in the middle of nowhere about 8km inland from Si Racha where every shop is Japanese and most of of the people living there are Japanese. 

Pattaya is quite close, but Si Racha is preferred for R & R in that community.
