A submarine may be one of the absolute dumbest ideas that any Thai military force has requested.

The seas around the country are generally so shallow that the advantages of a submarine; stealth at depth, tracking or stalking without being seen, would disappear.  It would most likely be able to be seen by a YouTuber with a cheap camera drone, let alone an adversary with more sophisticated equipment.

This is simply a case of "others have one, and I need to show big my D is by getting one, too".

Absolutely Ridiculous !  What possible use would the Thai Navy have with a submarine ? A half dozen 50 foot patrol boats would certainly be more useful, particularly to monitor fishing rights, curb smuggling, and deter illegal immigration by sea.
