The Thai government reported it has put its airports on red alert after a recent outbreak of the Ebola virus in Africa. Deputy government spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul acknowledged Thailand is aware of the Sudan strain of the Ebola virus discovered in Uganda last month and made known steps are being taken to monitor passengers passing through customs from Africa to stop its spread. Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul instructed airport staff to be extra vigilant of incoming passengers arriving on flights from Africa, reported Bangkok Post. “All travelers arriving from Africa, especially those whose journey began […]

I think it’s irresponsible to print stories like this at a time like this. People are still running scared of Covid and to many, a virus is a virus. The reality is that Ebola is a totally different virus to Covid. You are not infectious with Ebola without developing symptoms. It’s requires close physical contact with body fluids of an infected person and is not airborne. Basically, nothing like Covid and not to be confused as a similar risk to Covid

It is a news story that the Thai government reported.  Why is it irresponsible to send out an English version of the story?  The actual story, at least the one I read, reported that it is a different type of virus and did not compare it the same as covid-19 and only mentioned was this.

News of the outbreak of Ebola will have sent shivers down the spine of Thailand. The news comes as the nation is gently recovering to full health after more than two years of the crippling Covid-19 pandemic.“

In 2014 Ebola spread to many parts of the world including the US and my cousin, who is a Physician Assistant (PA), worked for the U.S. CDC and was deployed to Liberia to help treat and reduce the spread of Ebola. The company I worked for sent a team there and other western African countries to build temporary hospitals in the rural areas affected. The virus disease can be spread some animals like bats in addition to an infected person as you described.

As well they should. The incubation period for Ebola, from exposure to when signs or symptoms appear, can be anywhere from 2 to 21 days. The average is 8 to 10 days. 50% mortality. You don't want to be caught sleeping on this virus.

Quite right, no one should be caught sleeping regarding this virus but sadly WHO are unsure what to say, 'The jury is still out'. Not unlike the very early days of Covid-19.

Irresponsible by the Thai government to report it. I’m sure airports all over the world are routinely looking out for various problems with arriving passengers, failure to do so would be a neglect of duty. Now is not the time to air such routine measures and scare people further in to their shells
