That's a quite an irrelevant thing to pop in there. You should've added that "both men wore the same sized shoes" too, makes as much editorial sense.

The article finished with the victim being in a serious condition in hospital. They have confused the issue by mentioning murder at the beginning instead of attempted murder. I guess it grabs more attention.
