Recommended Posts

Despite Russia banning Facebook in the country just two days ago, the Russian Consulate in Phuket posted on its Facebook page yesterday to announce that Russian citizens there can stay one month longer than the original date on their visa. To do this, they must go to Phuket immigration with their original letter from the consulate, their passport, and a document confirming where they live in Phuket. This afternoon, the consulate will send letters to Phuket immigration requesting the extension. Reception will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Phuket immigration has so far not made any announcements about extensions for […]

I'm sorry if this upsets anyone, but all Russians everywhere should be sent packing.  They have put up with Putin and his criminals all these years. To slightly change a well known quote: you get the leaders you are prepared to tolerate. Send them all home.

Thailand is know for attracting criminals so no surprise there. Atleast as long they have money to spend...

They must leave. Any humanitarian sympathy must be reserved for Ukrainians.

Typical Thailand, nothing gets thought through. Stay tuned for all the stories to come about Russians unable to pay. Let's see how much love Thailand has for them then

Instead of extending their visas in Thailand., since Russia is on very friendly terms with the Junta leaders in Myanmar, and provides them with military aid, I think the Thai government  should buy bus tickets to Myanmar for the Russians in Phuket where they will be welcomed with open arms.

Europeans and Ukrainians give them food and money in the condos. It is absolut nonsense with one month extension without flights and money access. They need evacuation flights.

Even credit cards from foreign banks not working anymore in Russia because they quit complete Russia. And for sure no credit card (Visa, mastercard, etc) over a Russian bank works anymore in the world.

At the moment I read a comment at the Bangkok Post about a European who has a stranded russian couple living on his property and provide them with food and money and ask why the russian embassy not help them and evacuate the stranded russians because they have no accesss to money and their flights are canceld.

Punishing civilians/citizens for the actions of their Governments is an unethical thing to do and also rather concerning .

Mass punishment , punishing everyone for the actions of a few  is probably against some U.N laws/rules and a breach of basic human rights

They can fly to Moscow easily, Qatar, El Al, and Turkish had arriving flights in Moscow this morning.

Perhaps they do not want to go back. Which is quite  understandable. I would also prefer staying in a tropical resort, instead of flying back to Russia now. Money can be an issue but surely their embassy can help them. In this case, 'can help them' does not mean 'will help them'.

Killing civillians and children is then exactly what? So let them kill the whole Ukraine Nation? So you more concerned about the mothers who are running with their kids and not get slaughtered?!

The problem is to pay and book another flight without working cards, thats why the embassy has to provide evacuation flights. But sure the ones who have cash already use I guess what you mentioned.

Its not the Russian people in Thailand who are participating in the war with Ukraine and its also not the Russian people in Russia , its Putin and his army who are participating in the war .

Go to the UN and explain them how they can stop Putin to massacre civilians and the people of the Ukraine. The whole world will listen!

Will punishing Russian Citizens in Thailand have any effect on the war in Ukraine ?

The USA's attack on Iraq was terrible  so should all USA citizens abroad have all their access to money removed ?

Should all American citizens in Thailand have their ATM cards invalidated ?

Omg you not even understand the swift cut it is not about the Russians in Thailand but I not to explain it again. And I guess you have no children you should had to serve like my generation had to do in the balkan wars to understand what it means when they massacre civilians and help to stop it and the differences for example to a russian army like they massacred the civilians in Syria, in Grosny etc etc. Better not talk in this case if you have no knowledge about and better you never hace to see it and better you understand without to experience it. But as an adult you should be able to understand it and not write like a kid would do.

I only see someone speaking like a child and spewing nonsense. And it is not @Fluke

He is right, f***ing around with the innocent average Russian holiday maker is in no way going to solve the situation in Ukraine or remove Putin from power.

Following your logic, maybe we should send all Germans home too and restrict their credit cards so that they can pay some more for the actions of Adolf Hitler =))

Nonsense.

This is a thread about Russians civilians in Thailand , we are talking about Russian civilians in Thailand being given visa extensions .

We aren't talking about the Russian invasion of Ukraine , we are talking about Russian/Ukrainian citizens abroad and those people shouldn't face any punishment for what their Governments are doing back home IMO

Then go to the Ukraine and help and stop Putin and then no sanctions are needed!!!

There are plenty that do support it too. And, this is war. But I don't advocate for them being kicked out of Thailand.

This extension isn't a real solution though. The currency is turning to toilet paper, they have no access to credit cards or funds. The Russian embassy should be making arrangements repatriating those citizens who need to return. Sanctions are not going to evaporate overnight and it's likely going to get much, much worse.

Which does lead to another point. Who on earth in their right mind would be thinking of a short long haul leisure holiday to Thailand from anywhere right now?
