Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Minister announced today that tourists will eventually have to pay a 300 baht ‘land entry fee.’ The minister told the Associated Press the idea for this fee first came up after the Erawan Shrine bombing in 2015, after The Bureau of the Budget allocated some of it’s budget to treating injured tourists. But in 2019, the bureau said it couldn’t do this, and suggested the tourism ministry collect funds from tourists to use in case of emergencies. The minister has not yet revealed the date the fee will start, but it will likely be included with […]

How dumb are these people in charge?

Tourista are not coming here now due to extra cost on Tests and Involuntarily Hotel stays!

Yet Someone in government believes Tourists coming to Thailand must be relieved of more money than just an Airfare and spending their money in Hotels and restaurants and Bars!

Thailand believes they are special to the rest of the world?

if they don’t want tourists to come , just come out and say it!

People would rather go to Cambodia and Phillipines or Malaysia or Hawaii or Mexico or Maldives than forking out extra dollars because the Thai government thinks they are special??

Insurance? So does this only cover tourist visas or all of them even the 30 day on arrival and Non O's? Until they change the Non OA that doesn't seem to fit into this plan.

They already consolidated 300 baht I think it was back around 2007 (May have been 500?). You may recall having to pay this tourist fee as a kind of departure tax. That was consolidated in the airline ticket price around 2007. Now they want another 300 baht

I'm not so sure if day 5 rates show that they caught it in Thailand but surely they should not be out in the general population.  Could be that they are exposed to others on the aircraft, though.

So boarder runs will cost 300 baht more, ok.

It was ฿500 but increased to ฿700 back in 2007? When it was put on your air ticket.. there were problems collecting the correct amount in cash only from tourists as you went through the departure and immigration at the airport.. so this was added to the departure flight ticket..

So "Tourists" will be soon paying 700+300 baht for what ? I have yet to see any documentation from the Thai government which has a full breakdown of where this money is planned to go, has anyone seen anything ? More BS and money into the never ending trough. 555

So ฿700 already paid then and now another ฿300 so ฿1,000 per person. I’m surprised this hasn’t been pointed out to them?

My hope would be they would just collect an additional 300 from everyone on arrival, and end the covid insurance scheme/scam once and for all.

Yes, that would be a much fairer and cheaper option.

You fly in, you won't see it. Like you aren't seeing, and thinking, about the 700 Baht departure fee. Because it is in the ticket price. The land border entries, however, they will "feel" it.

You don’t get it?

Its the point that other countries don’t charge this fee for an actual tourist coming to spend money in their country??

let’s just charge tourists $1000 dollars on arrival and then tell them , they can go back home now !

we got your money?

It’s a money grab and suckers just pay it?

No !

It is no right!

And someone else is saying they also have a separate departure tax already worked into your airfare?

Thailand is just plain greedy and trying to catch up on what they lost 😞

Thats not the way things go in this world?

You are not right here! Because you just not knowing it, cause it is in the airplane/trip ticket, mostly:

https://www.insider.com/countries-that-require-a-tourist-tax-2019-2#youll-also-find-a-tourist-tax-in-italy-6

It is just done more silently, clever, and declared a "tax".

The other difference is that it applies to ALL tourists. Italians and foreigners. Same in many other countries listed in the article such as Germany and Spain. This is often in the form of tax placed on hotel accommodation. In other words, it’s fair and unbiased.

Actually, I think that at least the 700 Baht leaving fee is also to find in plane tickets for Thai passengers. Will assumingly be the same for the 300 baht entry with plane in the ticket fee. Not sure how that will be on a land boarder entry. Are Thais exempt, here?

And you see how clever other countries doing it? Not only it is mostly hidden in the bill somewhere, under "taxes", they even have more revenues!

700Baht exit fee hidden!

300Baht entry fee hidden

up to 10x payment over Thai fees for entry to tourist spots and Temples?

charging Farangs different prices for street food in some circumstances?

Charging Farangs different service charges on many retail establishments?

Its like the code of silence here unless you catch them out?

Farangs hit with fines for not wearing seat belts while car loads of pickups with workers hanging out the back are not seen by the Police?

Trucks driving with workers on top ?

No fines ?

so where does it stop charging Farangs and tourists ?

You May say it’s only another $10 until plan B & C add more charges hidden in every aspect of travelling tourists!

Not to mention 10% added tax to Hotels bills on food Beverage and accommodation?

Not to mention 7% service charge added to restaurants bills and Hotels sometimes illegally?

No!

It’s not just 300 Baht ?

It goes on and on !
