Read the original on which the usual Neill Fronde fantasy is based:

"Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew yesterday (Jan 7) met with the Consul Generals and Honoury Consuls of eight countries to remind them that their respective citizens must adhere to the COVID-19 health and safety protocols in effect on the island."

So what's your opinion based on, since i) if you've looked at the provincial case figures for the last few months they show very clearly that the complete reverse is the case and ii) there are  checks on those going in to Phuket, although they may well not be 100% effective, but  there are no checks at all on those leaving Phuket?

As the Thai Government put all there Eggs in the same Basket to open up for Tourists there will be no going back to lockdowns again or tourists being turned away. If  needed falsifying the Numbers to make it look safe for them they will do.

Sorry for Double post.

Hardly 'proves your point' beyond some people being more selfish than others.

... and despite the constant  weeping and wailing by farangs here about "Thais desperate to survive financially"  and "avoiding Poverty or feeding their children", very, very few Thais in Phuket or anywhere else have said that they see opening bars and promoting tourism as the answer.

It's simply never happened - some have quite rightly asked for government aid, but although there have been protests and petitions about virtually everything else in the last couple of years there simply haven't been any by Thais asking for bars to be opened and tourism to re-start.

It simply hasn't happened - and if you think it has, cite an example.

As for your

maths is clearly not your forte.  The known death rate (known cases / known deaths) is 1.36% so more than one thousand times that.

21.5k Thai Covid Deaths Total divided by total pop. 70 mill = 0.03 %.
If not very old or with no conditions that reduces to around 25% x 0.03 gives around 0.007% .0.001 was sarcasm meaning very very very low deaths……

“selfish” to try to avoid poverty by not following rules, right got it.

The ten million poor Thais never complain as that’s entirely useless and puts no food on table.

ummm ... not on a motorbike, particularly if you're on your own 😂.

For most Thais, wearing a mask just isn't a big issue.

You know,.there is no such decision to make, as soon it says 'have to wear a mask outside their own accomodation, property, ....'!

Which, if I remember right, is this order, to wear a mask.

Also, what most people, 'arguing' you are alone, on a motorcycle, fresh air, forget:

You come to  traffic light: out of nowhere, oopsi,.a lot other 'alone people in fresh air' are cllse around you.

Also to wear a mask in car, IF NOT ALONE, is questioned often.

Because it can be that all are from the same household.

Yes, can. But also it can be, that there are peope.from different households in. So the police usually would need to stop every freaking car with no masks, but more as one person in. Which would bind manpower and would block other important duties.

It would be if being "fully vaxxed" meant that you wouldn't catch and pass the virus on to others who are either not fully vaxxed or still vulnerable even if fully vaxxed - but it doesn't.

That is extreme Zero Covid talk.

“ vulnerable” but stupidly mixing with non- vulnerable at inconvenience & expense of the healthy of course.

“Others” can get vaxxed / get healthy / stay home / don’t travel etc. Don’t Care.

Winter Flu kills 15-20k old in UK alone every year and is managed everywhere in fact by vaccine & medical care alone without Masks /Testing / Quarantine.
Time to follow that for Covid.Latest after 3rd Jab Programs Completed.

The same applies to a helmet!

I'm simply saying that for most Thais it isn't a big issue - even before it became mandatory most Thais around here (locally) wore masks - certainly way more than 90%.

  • Thanks 1

Friggin’ just let the foreign tourists interpret the rules themselves. If they interpret wrongly and get caught, they will pay the fine, tea money or do time. That’s pretty much what all tourists going to other countries do. Why is Thailand special? I’m sure those foreign reps are going to get right on it, just for the Thai administration 😂

Ummm ... no, it's a very simple and very basic fact.

... and while this is Thailand not the UK even there the comparison with 'winter flu' is rather ill-informed.

Covid has killed at least five times as many in the UK per year, and that's without allowing for the numbers saved by shielding and restrictions.  Follow the 'procedures' for winter flu and you'd have maybe  250,000 more dead every year and an economy that had died due to the numbers off sick.

I see you have not been informed - sorry but you are very wrong.

1. Expats are not covered under health plan for Thais in State Hospitals, unless they have work permits etc and have been joined by their company. (snip) Fact.

No, @AussieBob, that's not "fact", it's completely untrue.

Anyone who was here before Covid arrived, two years ago, and remained here was covered from the start for treatment for Covid in state hospitals.

That has never changed.

That was announced repeatedly and widely reported.

Please don't tell me I'm "very wrong" for something I've never said or suggested.

It's rather tedious.

2. The standard insurance only covers for Covid related treatment in a hospital - not for asymptomatic hostel or quarantine accommodation costs. Fact.

What "standard insurance" 😂?

If people buy cheap insurance that doesn't meet the mandated requirements and they think that's "standard" so it's 'good enough' to pass immigration, that's their choice.

"Fact". 😂

I don't know what part of that wasn't clear the first time I wrote it.

When children in class misbehave, teachers contact the parents and tell them to keep their kids in line. But what do you do when foreign tourists are misbehaving in your country? Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew met today with Consul Generals and Honorary Consuls from 8 countries to ask them to warn their citizens to follow the rules – especially Covid-19 regulations – while visiting the island and all of Thailand. The Consul General of Australia and the Russian Federation in Phuket were joined by the Honorary Consul General of Mexico and Nepal, and the Honorary Consul of Austria, the Netherlands, […]

The story Phuket to 8 foreign reps: your citizens must obey Covid-19 rules as seen on Thaiger News.

These pumped up clowns get their provincial positions as part of the corrupt brown nose, brown envelope centralised system that passes for governance and has done since feudal times in the west.

The west moved on.

The Consular staff will be having a laugh in their (open) consular bars for years over this pompous bollox.

On Phuket, mostly only the BiB's did wear a mask, on road duty, before Covid.

They clearly make these irrational decisions for illogical reasons of collective culture.” Perfectly reasonable” ? Seriously, it’s Absurd. And re. Fines, wearing a Mask has nothing to do with avoiding a “no helmet “” fine …have you perhaps “ gone native” in actually defending this obvious nonsense ? See in other posts you also support bankrupting regular Thai Businesses with Covid measures….

clearly quite ludicrous to wear a mask on a motorbike, with obvious near zero wind transmission potential, and then NOT to wear a helmet, so giving 1000 x higher risk of death ! 😷

or not hold a license or carry insurance or road tax or ride illegal sidecars, with 25k Dead on the roads every year here. 80% mopeds. The very sight of mask / no helmet mc riders IS perhaps the stupidest and so funniest spectacle here.🤗

How do you NOT even get that ? From your very high standard other posting I see you are high- minded & super-intelligent (if too Socialist), but surely no motor cyclist, and possibly been here too long …..Stockholm Syndrome ? 🙁

forgive these few personal comments which I normally avoid on principle but which you make to me and others so it’s payback I guess…😌

Note: my real favorite absurd bike helmet scene is the Full Face Helmet with Visor Down (the only sensible choice, my practice) WITH Mask Behind !
They just don’t get that with Visor down for speaking, they not only have a far better mask than cloth ….that actually works in fact …... but that the lesser Cloth Mask is utterly superfluous ….🤣

Talking about GRAB type Delivery Bikers who never take off their helmets or lift their visor in public.

I'm not "defending" it, simply telling it how it is  - Thais don't mind wearing masks as Westerners do, and many wear masks or some sort of face covering on a bike anyway and they always have done for decades.

It's all about not being in the sun, and if you haven't seen that as a Thai trait you need to get out more.

A "socialist" - funny.

"Surely no motor cyclist" - even funnier. I've ridden bikes and had assorted bike licences for 45 years, owning and  riding everything from RD350's to Guzzi Le Mans - and the sidecar combo I had here was fully legal.

If you don't know that many Thais wear masks, bandanas and old T-shirts wrapped round their faces when on a bike you've clearly seldom been out with many bikers here.

As for my supporting "bankrupting regular Thai Businesses with Covid measures", again I'm just telling it how it is.

If you know of any Thai (as distinct from farang) protests or petitions wanting bars opened and tourism re-started, then give a link to them - any at all.

I've stopped wearing a mask outside. I only put it on when entering a business as the business needs to comply. Outside it is up to us, the people. Take back your power

You gonna do the same with seatbelts?

Take back your power and not wear one?

I probably wasn't clear - when I said "even before it became mandatory most Thais around here (locally) wore masks - certainly way more than 90%" I meant after Covid arrived but before it became mandatory.

Before that only a few others wore masks - mainly monks - but a lot of people wore face coverings of some sort, particularly up- country.

Its a particularly cringeworthy acronym for 'Boys in Bown' or the local police.

Used mainly by nose tapping expats demonstrating their local knowledge or lack thereof.

Yeah. My observations as well. Been of this manner for some time up to the present - well over 90%.

Indeed.

MMM lets see foreign reps turning the tables and asking questions how we are treated in your Country.

1 Don't class us as Dirty Farangs that Don't wash.

2 Treat us fairly same as a Thai  citizen.

3 Stop assaulting us and protect us more.

4 Stop Double pricing because we are Foreigners.

5 Stop ripping us off and Scamming us.

6 Stop Threatening us if our Accommodation is not what we paid for.

Please feel free to add more Questions we would like to be answered to Thai Consular Officials.
