Bangkok police denied reports that live ammunition was used against pro-democracy protesters during a clash yesterday evening where at least two protesters were shot. Doctors have not made any detailed statements on the injuries, but police say only rubber bullets were fired at protesters. Officers say they are still investigating the incident. Yesterday evening, a large rally of Thai activists including the members of the United Front of Thammasat and Demonstration, Thalu Fah, Democracy Restoration Group and the Ratsadon movement had gathered at Democracy Monument to march to the German Embassy via Pathumwan intersection to protest the Constitutional Court’s ruling […]

Oh yes, like we believe you! And what about the goons that the police had stationed all over the place and most likely armed? The days pass, the temperature slowly rises, the anger is being increased and as many overseas observers have noted there will be a time when it all spills over.

Yes...rubber bullets...if they were live rounds, there would be a lot of dead bodies on the streets. looks like it's time to listen... Civilian deaths on the streets of the capital....not the sort of publicity you want. Particularly when you are trying to encourage tourists....

Yeah sure we should all believe the RTP as they have never been proved to be violent corrupt thugs have they ?

According to the first aid and doctors the bullet went through the lungs and liver. He is in the Chula hospital. I guess a rubber bullet will not go through a body.

A friend an ex marine was shot by a rubber bullet in NI - he said it was the most painful thing he had ever experienced !! Obv better than a metal one though !

The victim they are talking is in the chula hospital and the bullet went through the lungs and liver, I never heard a rubber bullet goes in and other side out.

Exactly right. The next thing is to hold a investigation to clear the RTP and find a pasty they can pin the blame on...

And it is filmed and documented that the shooters had policeuniform

It's very, very unlikely the police used live rounds - they've no possible reason to.

All previous recent allegations have been shown to have been untrue, with the rounds fired by others trying to raise the ante.

I'm not defending the government or the RTP, but it's very unlikely these were live rounds.

Your opinion and your entitled to it but with recent events there is very little if any trust to be had for these government lackyes..

That's simply completely untrue.

There's nothing to connect the casualty in the video with anyone reportedly shot "through the lungs and liver ... through a body ... in and other side out" and while you can't see the casualty's injuries in the video you can see the road where he's been lying very clearly, near the end of the video, and there isn't a spot of blood to be seen.

If they'd been shot as described it's obviously impossible that there was no bleeding.

Well, look at the supposed evidence so far - it's not a question of "trust" but very basic observation. You can't get a sucking chest wound with no blood!

There are a number of different types of rubber / plastic bullets used, but they're all designed to hurt otherwise there'd be little point!

Thats the whole point of plastic/rubber baton rounds. They are too large in caliber and too low in velocity to penetrate a human.

They will kill if used incorrectly and hit you in certain places but the surgeons will not be cutting it out of you.

In the British army we were trained to fire them at the road in front of the protestors. That way it skips up and hits the legs. Getting hit on the shins by one definitely gets your attention and was  accompanied with a shout of "Walk that one off you ****".

Now the first aiders in that video are not treating a wound from a plastic/rubber baton round. They are treating a puncture wound hence them applying pressure and using field bandages. Kudos to them BTW because they knew exactly how to treat it.

Thats exactly what I thought, too.

You cant see a damned thing because of the hedge. Also because it entered the lungs first most blood loss will be filling the lungs rather than escaping the body.

Right at the end you can actually see the road where the casualty was lying very clearly  - not a drop of blood to be seen, nor any on any of the 'medics' washing their hands off or anyone else.

You're possibly correct about the blood if there was no exit wound, but that's supposedly not the case here - it's simply not possible as described.

The medics can be clearly seen washing their hands and wrists even though they were wearing nitrile gloves.

First he doesn't realised that nobody said there was no blood and second it was the doctor who said the bullet went through the lungs and liver. But he can go to the Chulo hospital and tell the doctor he knows it better. I guess they have x ray there.

Yes - but no blood, supposedly from a sucking chest wound which they'd have had to seal - it's impossible!

Have they actually said it was a round which penetrated the guy?

Listening to the video I cant actually hear any small arms fire. What I hear is baton rounds and a guy with a shotgun firing into what appeared to be the road. Now depending on what that shotgun was loaded with it could very well have been that which injured someone.

I suggest you google sucking chest wound. Bare in mind there is not actually a lot of flesh covering most of your lungs so external blood loss is minimal. Most of that blood loss goes directly into the lungs.
