News Forum - Last US troops leave Afghanistan, ending 20-year war

We're agreed that this wasn't "the best" way to do things.

Nobody here's disagreeing with that or has disagreed in any of the several threads on the subject here, so constantly repeating it, at length, with the same finger pointing, doesn't add anything.

What you've never done, though, is to even try to suggest a "better" way that it could have been done without it being a "total unconditional surrender", without "resurgent Taliban along with Islamic Jihadis such as ISIS and Al-Qaida", without they're being "armed with modern American weaponry" and without "hundreds of American citizens along with thousands of allies stranded behind Taliban lines" which made the US and Afghanistan  "worse off than before we invaded".

Is there any chance of you doing that and saying how it should have been done to achieve all or any of that, rather than just how it shouldn't?

Easy what Joe Biden did, DO NOT DO

It must be difficult for the Yanks to watch the Taliban's special forces wearing American uniforms and wearing there boots plus of course the most up to date weaponry slung over there shoulders. Well done.

And the Taliban no doubt laughing at the report today on BBC that the US troops on leaving disabled the helicopters they left behind by breaking the windows and slashing the tyres. Guess they don't believe that the Taliban have the equivalent of Kwikfit to call out . Hardly disabling more like just being a bit of a nuisance.

yes i saw that gummy but somewhere there will be a warehouse full of spares for every Helli plane and armour happy Christmas US of A. Try and put across our land and we will bring it down with our Stinger missiles you gave us.

Just watching Sky News and it was showing a Black Hawk being flown in Kabul earlier with the Taliban flag being flown underneath. Looks like it took them the best part of half a day to get flying in the US leftovers.

And the whole affair is more reflective of who the real suckers might be.

They will force AAF pilots to fly them.

I watched Sky news today, a Taliban leader said the " Infidels " damaged many Helicopters but we have people who will repair them he said. On Al jazeera they allowed cameras in to see the damaged left in the main terminal, every info screen was smashed and thrown on the floor, staircases blocked up to the second floor glass smashed everywhere for what ? i can understand the yanks damaging Armour and Choppers but why smash up the Airport normal Afghans use it not just the Taliban. Another home run for America.

They’re already bringing back the helicopters that fled across the border to attack Panshir Valley.

Joe Biden talks to the Taliban, shares intel with the Taliban, gives them advanced weaponry but Joe doesn’t give one second to the anti-Taliban resistance forces

Exactly.

.

All too clearly a very few posters here not only have no knowledge of the subject, which isn't an issue as there's no reason why anyone here should, but they also have no interest in the thread subject or the forum whatsoever, no respect for the forum or other posters, and their only interest is in de-railing every topic they can here, from Covid-19 to Afghanistan, in order to post childish partisan abuse about American political leaders while other posters try in vain to make constructive posts.

Getting some of those aircraft into the air is one thing, keeping them airworthy for any period of time will be next to impossible due to consumable parts being unavailable.

It is a bit embarrassing for sure and why they did not torch them is a bit of a mystery to me.

2500 Soldiers to deter terrorists isn't a major deployment and not one US soldier had been killed in 18 months over there until this loser started making the decisions.  How many US soldiers are stationed in Germany?  Close to 35,000. We have troops in over 100 countries worldwide. Do any pose as great a danger to us than the home of the Taliban, Al Qaeda or ISIS?  Sorry, but I think we'll be there again only after a great calamity befalls the USA. My opinion only.

The USA had plenty of spare rockets that they wanted to get rid of and also helicopters they wanted to get rid of .

Why didn't the USA use their rockets to destroy the helicopters ?

Maybe they left them behind for the Talibann to use against I.S ?

So how does that justify their participation, except to show them as too weak to take decisions for themselves?

While France and Germany were against the war in Iraq, for example, they played an active part in Afghanistan.

Had enough countries, particularly the UK, actively opposed either war instead of condoning or supporting it then the US may have had second thoughts.

More pertinent to this thread, had other countries started their withdrawal earlier, enabling it over a longer time which was the only way it could have been done better, then this shambles would have been at best avoided and at worst reduced.

Their participation was justified by the pressure and threats made by the USA.

Countries cannot resist the USA without paying a huge price.

Remember, "You are with us or against us". What country is going to say no the unhinged behemoth, even if t their populations protest en masse. In the case of the UK, we had Blair cheerlead the invasion, directly against, and without the participation of the people

Most importantly however.......

The goal was the  financial enrichment of the military industrial complex and the Generals who are on the take.

Given the above, Afghanistan was a resounding success

Do not get distracted by giving the ''it was to keep the homeland safe'' strawman.

The comment was not clear though.

Well that just confuses me more.

1) go to youtube

2) search for Crux - taliban fighters surround panshir valley (uploaded on Aug 24)

3) then skip to around 1:30 mark, it talks about reports of the Taliban trying to get helicopters back

If I have the right VDO the caption says "helicopters being brought into the valley from Tajikistan". That implies a one-way trip. There are no specifics or footage of helicopter type and I don't see any evidence anywhere else that Tajikistan will support the Taliban - if anything, the opposite is true.
