Taliban vows no revenge, less restrictions on women this time

Recommended Posts

In the wake of seizing control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have pledged a kinder, gentler rule than that of 20 years ago before the United States 2001 invasion. They vow to not exact revenge on their opponents and to respect the rights of women, taking a more conciliatory tone. As the Taliban stormed the capital and assumed control, tens of thousands of panicked Afghans tried desperately to get out of the country any way possible, even flooding runways and clinging to departing planes, fearful of the Taliban’s vicious human rights record. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid revealed his identity for the […]

An interview with a guy who sells full body burqas said business has gone through the ROOF over the last few days. The women are terrified of what's about to happen. Beauty shops are being forced to close, and if a woman holds a job, she must quit the job - BUT she can have any male member of her family assume her role. So, if a woman is a heart surgeon, she must quit, but she can give the job to her brother who has been up until now a sheep herder. (I stole that last bit from Stephen Colbert).

What ? They can't show women being stoned to death or videos of public beheadings ?

The problem with fundamentalist groups like this is, the instant someone thinks the guy at the top isn't being "religious enough" he's likely the target of an in-house "reassignment" and an even more hardline crew takes over.

What the Taliban want now is international recognition. The kind that gets them a seat at "the big table" (i.e at the UN). A table that isn't loaded with sanctions and restrictions against it's leaders.
Once they've been recognized as the "legitimate" government, it's almost impossible for anyone to take that away from them again.

Once that is done, then they can start getting back to the business of terrorizing their own people - and pumping out the opium again.

They are not going to run a modern, progressive Afghanistan along the lines of the UAE, Bahrain or Qatar. If anything, they'll want to "out-Islam" their Pakistani and Iranian neighbours.
That's how they've been raised and indoctrinated for generations.

And that isn't going to change overnight.

Hmmm I'm inclined to think that's bollox given they've just gone through districts daubing houses with paint that contain a working women. An absolute tragedy.

This has to be the biggest PR disaster, for the americans, since Gerald Ratners prawn sandwich speech !

What a pathetic excuse for being pussies. Twitter is infamous for permanently banning people for action that they didn't even do on Twitter's platform -- even if you are a wrongthinker in other media, Twitter will ban you. So how the f*** are they going to explain that overthrowing a legal government isn't somehow against their imaginary rules?

Hardly the first time is it that a legal government has been overthrown and the perpetrators allowed to remain on Twitter is it ? A good example here, so they are acting in the same manner with the Taliban .

Their saying that now until all the coalition troops leave It's not just the Women and girls that need to be scared it's the young boys I noticed in my 372 days in Afghanistan the men (if you can call them that) have a fetish for young boys especially on a Thursday (man love Thursday) as we used to call it because they'd abuse the young boys on a Thursday and pray for forgiveness at Friday prayers.

Also everyone in the west talking about taking refugees People need to be careful what they wish for if you seen the pictures of the C17 with over 640 bods crammed on (mostly fighting age males) none off them screened for weapons before running onboard The crew of that C17 need to answer some questions and possibly face disciplinary action via their chain off command it wasn't heroic it was reckless.

I would have put only one toilet higher up my list of concerns than guns!

Yeah that toilet will be rancid by the time that C17 lands in Qatar Benroon mate 5555

But on a serious note it was a major error in judgement to take off without searching them for weapons especially as they were just random civies that had breached the Airport perimeter.

And if they do regress to their medieval way's there's probably not a lot the West can do .. another full scale invasion is almost certainly a no no after this debacle .. this is not just a car crash of foreign policy .. it's a pile up ..

Given the numbers of people who died totally pointlessly to boost the ego of their political leaders who sent them there to die, then it is more of a train wreck

Yet, the faux civilising missions continue to be. Especially when none of this is your business or of your interests.

Why is this?

Perhaps they need a different approach. Maybe stan against stan?

I see Afghanistan is bordered by Turkmenistan. That awfully nice dictator there might feel threatened and get hold of some nuclear weapons? He seems unstable enough.
He surely won't like the black outfits the Taliban seem to be keen on, as I see "rules were put into [place] such as the banning of black cars"

It's just occurred to me if there was an exception made for hearses (or is it hearsii?)
Or have they had to decide another colour? White for the face of the deceased, red for blood, green for a rotting corpse?

I still say it was all about the opium production. The first year the US invaded, opium production went up and continued to climb almost every year. It's not like this is the first time the US government got itself involved with drugs for profit.

They were checked, and they weren't "random civvies".

Your assumptions are, as usual, baseless.

To get back on topic, "less restrictions" are simply not possible unless their religious beliefs have changed.

Since their beliefs are fundamental, based solely on the prophet's teachings, and they've been unchanged for 1,500 years, it's rather unlikely they've had a major change in the last twenty.

The Taliban are cowards. And they believe in a perverted form of Islam. It has little to nothing to do with the Koran, or the original teachings, and it is likely most of them are not religious anyway, but are in it for the money, the ability to be a heroin dealer without any of the legal consequences, the power, the girls, and the ability to kill, rape, steal or maim at will. That can be a heady amount of power for a young man without much direction in his life, nor any moral our ethical foundation.

They are now also making huge money by manufacturing and selling crystal meth. Again, no principals, just alot of fake puritanism. However, that supposed ideology does not stop the kidnapping and raping of 13 year old girls. Quite an example of their "faith".

The girl shown in the last photo is a hero, who shot dead some of the Taliban soldiers in her village. Good on her. Nice work.

Once the Afghan National Security Forces assume sole responsibility for security on September 12, they will also be faced with managing the country's flourishing, and increasingly violent, drug trade. Crystal meth, in particular, is suddenly everywhere in Afghanistan — fueled by the discovery that Om, a weed that grows wild in the mountains, is an excellent source of ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, the drug's key ingredient.
