Here's a poem inspired by the death of Mrs T, with many thanks to Mike Absalom.

When Mrs Thatcher was elected

A change in the paradigm was detected,

there was for those who loved to make,

no greater foe, make no mistake.

She declared that unions and mining were a vice

and Scargill said "Hey that's not nice"

and shook his fist and coughed and sighed

and soon thereafter the miners died.

Then, Britain was a troubled land

but some citizens still made a stand

whilst some had faith in compromise,

Mrs T just snarled and closed her eyes,

there's only money so all get used,

it's "ME! ME! ME!" that's come home to roost.

and to help explain the new Tory right

...and wrongs and ways and mays and

might........

and to keep her power at maximum level

she turned to a minion of the devil

Sir Keith Joseph, in 1979 not only evil but malign.

and from the day he had first met her,

she found love at first sight in his libretta.

unchecked by compassion care or guilt

their plans ran wild and at full tilt

To swallow up the welfare state

and national health they planned full spate.

and with an ardour oft reserved for Latinas,

they plotted to make an example of the Malvinas,

when from the door of number ten,

she urged "Rejoice, Rejoice!" at the death of scores of men.

Her sabre-rattling backfired once as she was heard to scoff

whilst sitting on a gun "Will this jerk me off?"

her fantasies began to grow

as she tried to cut down all we trust and know

The schools, the poor the unemployed

to make them pay is what she enjoyed

Her diatribes always animated,

blew up one morning when she stated

there's no such thing as society,

just money power and notoriety

Her mania and her lust for power,

ever increasing by the hour

began to worry her own supporters,

they said "by the next election Labour will have caught us"

behind her back they began to hatch a

plan to eliminate the uncontrollable Thatcher

Not lacking for a precedent

to burn her at the stake they went

but although there was no conflagration

she was still ousted by her own congregation.

This then is not a time for dirges,

and let us not control our urges

but at this time that she has chosen to drop off in

lets all join hands and dance with glee upon her coffin!
