The death toll has risen on the fire incident this morning at the Grand Diamonds City and Casino in Poipet city in Cambodia. Thai officials confirmed that 21 Thai citizens were killed and another 53 were injured in the fire. The Cambodian authorities have not yet confirmed a full report on the deaths and injuries. Officials from the Burapa Internal Security Operations Command and relevant departments arrived in Cambodia at 2pm today to monitor the fire situation and provide help to the Thai people. Strange story:

Victims' bodies evacuated via Trat some 6 hours' drive away when Aranyaprathet Thailand 100 metres away.

Multiple fires spreading very quickly, even spreading "downwards" on some floors.

Much more to this story.

So bloody sad. How the hell did the fire spread like this. I guess that either fire regulations are really slack in Cambodia or envelopes stuffed with money were handed out. Either way so many families are suffering now.

Substandard highly flammable material is probably why it became an inferno. Sounds similar to a night club that went up this year here. Sone just never had a chance.

It appears that the main building contained a large amount of highly flammable material, that the local fire service was not eqipped to deal with such a large blaze, and that there were too few emergency exits throughout the complex.
