The recent loosening of some of the world’s strictest regulations surrounding the virus has many fearing that virus variants may spread across the country’s 1.4 billion population during next month’s Lunar New Year holiday. Despite the fears, China’s national health authority has not released official fatalities from Covid since the restrictions were lifted. Currently, the death total from the pandemic sits at 5,235 as of December 3. But, experts predict that 60 to 80% of the population will eventually be infected with […]

Ahhhhhh, it was getting so boring during all these months without dramatic covid stories coupled with those beautiful pictures of masked people in different covid situations. So thanks China, covid fanatics were missing so much those stories, so you give them great joy that you will soon see in dramatic comments and accurate predictions of what is going to happen to you next like. Unlike you, we have the good vaccines...well it does not work for very long, yes we can catch and transmit the disease anyway, yes some suffer from bad side effects but we cannot die from covid anymore...well ok, some do die anyway but... shut up China. And because it is you China, it will give them an even greater joy, those fanatics cannot stand you as well as it happens. So again, thanks China. Covid never left us, we all got it at some point so we all know that, but without the dramatic news and pictures of masked people with full protective gears on, it was kind of boring so nobody really bothers to talk about it anymore. Thank you China for that wonderful Christmas present.

I would say kudos for China for finally seeing reality. The lockdowns and mandates and associated nonsense fuel hysteria. It will take a while, but the Chinese too will grow apathetic. The sooner the better, so aviation and the world economy can get back on track.

Here in Japan, record “cases” and apparently the most in the world in the past week, more than double South Korea down in second. But few people are concerned. Masks are coming off and the partitions are coming down.

Time to move on.

Agreed BH. And all thanks to the fantastic vaccines that protect the people and stop the massive overload on public health systems.

Many people seem to think vaccines only work by stopping you catching or transmitting the virus. This is known as “sterilising immunity”, the holy grail of vaccines, but something many vaccines don’t achieve. Even the Measles vaccine which was once thought to be 100% sterilising has proven not to be the case.

It amazes me, that after two years of people talking about Covid and vaccines, people still don’t understand the simple basics. They seem to think the Covid vaccine “doesn’t work” because you can still catch it and still transmit it.  These people haven’t even bothered to look in to the basics before they trash the marvel of science that has perhaps saved their life. It may surprise them to learn that most vaccines in use today do not provide sterilising immunity. The Covid vaccines give whats known as “Protective immunity” and similar to other vaccines in use today for diseases such as Hepatitis B and Rotavirus.

Better to stay away from Chinese tourists.

Better stay away from ANY tourists, if you must be scared of catching covid. Can you really tell Japanese/Korean and Chinese people apart by sight?

Just watch them for 5 seconds. Then you will know! I can tell the difference between Chinese and Taiwanese after a few seconds.

By sight is difficult to differentiate for me.

In the west we slowly lifted restrictions after enough people had been vaccinated and/or had developed resistance by catching covid itself.

This meant health systems were not inundated by numbers they simply could not cope with. We also developed better treatments as we learned more and thankfully the virus itself mutated into a less severe variant.

China on the other hand seems to have gone from serious restrictions to none while having little herd immunity. This could be catastrophic for the Chinese health system and the population itself.
