News Forum - Phuket power play: Deputy PM aims to dismantle influential figures
the government's conservatism is outlined by their attitudes to cannabis that are archaic. Firstly they can't let go of the old ideas of "reefer madness" and than they cling to the ideas of medicinal cannabis that are largely quackery rooted in ancient TCM. It's the medicinal use that should b closely regulated not the recreational -

News Forum - Phuket power play: Deputy PM aims to dismantle influential figures
THose who want to turn back the legislation are looking for /cherrypicking reasons to do this - there really is no real reason. However those who want to keep it legal will say that the only negative effects are foreigners. THe lack of control of course has allowe a lot of people without visas and WPs go get in on the act even though they are blantatly outside the laws. -

Why Thailand is a hub for international criminals?
You got blown some s**t for that comment, but I thought it was good relative to the OP. Never know who you're sitting next to in Thailand. Everyone has a story, I take them at their word but sometimes..... something seems a bit 'off', glossed over. Maybe just to me given my background isn't mysterious, 1+1=2, most of my adult life around the same sort of vetted people without much baggage. So living here has been a trip. Apart from the mostly known quantities within the pensioner category, wow, all sorts from all over I'd not come across before. Easy to default into being judgemental, superior, but after several years, meh, these are the peeps around me now. Have a few beers and a few laughs and don't think too much.... but not naive about the possibility one of them had chopped his mother up with an axe then flew to Thailand. Did meet a fella here once who was quite open about being a full-time thief, specifically retail shoplifting. Does the business for about 6 months, or until he 'feels' the police activity is intensifying, then Thailand for a holiday, until things cool down back home. Didn't appear to be rich, or flaunting it like a holiday Baht millionaire, just a "normal" looking bloke on modest coin in budget friendly Thailand/SEA. Felt to me like his "job" was his job there, not here, but yeah, couldn't escape the idea he might nick my wallet or phone off the table. But he didn't.
