Classic Cars.

Recommended Posts

A newbie to the forum lead me to want to start this thread, Just by mentioning 'classic cars' , Thailand is a depository of so many old and rusted out old classic cars from mk1 Ford Escorts to Alfa Romeo 2000 coupes,

Me being an Aussie have to post a pic of what I used to drive in my late teens, now considered a classic in Australia and worth 30 times what I paid back then😒

Just an example of what little jems one can find in Thailand, Can you tell what car this is? I tried to contact them but it was already sold, from about 8 years ago.

Ooooh… those taillights and misfitting bumper makes the light bulb in my head flicker but it won’t light up.
Most iconic cars I have owned have been an original HK GTS 327 Monaro then a ground up rebuild of a HQ one tonner with a WB front clip, GTS dash, built 350 and Turbo 400 that ate diffs. Then my first company car came along and giving my monthly salary to engine and speed shops,  petrol stations and fines became less appealing. Switched to the bikes and the best were an original Katana 1000 spoked wheel model and an insane, fully worked Yamaha RD350 LC. Lost my license for 3 years and that was that. Back in the day, my cousin owned an original Phase III and wrapped it around a bus stop and a tree. Sold the wreck for pesos. That man has some regrets :-)

I worked at a salvage car auction back the 1990's, Kicking myself in the ass now, I sold an LX Torana A9-X 4 door for 10,000. the original engine and box was swapped out of it for a L31 308 and an aussie 4speed, but it still had the complete set of tags and the disc brake rear diff and subframe The buyer did not hesitate, paid the 10 grand drove it onto his trailer.

I had to cheat and do a image search, but in the back of my head was when it returned a Mazda, was I bet this is one of those models with the wankel engine. That is quiet a find in Thailand.

Cheers cake, as the OP you gave the inspiration for the thread from your "Hello everybody" post, C'MON MAN, there must some more finds out there other than mine, I can remember an XR Ford Fairmont with factory V8 and all original trim for sale back in around year 2020.

Mazda Familia, 1000 series, later rebranded as 323.

They were actually exported to Malaysia in parts and assembled there in knockdown kits. A few of them made it across the border it seems.

Anyone seen any other old classics around?

I saw two Mark 1 Cortinas on the same day in Trang a few years back, then an old Mercury, left hand drive and very dusty, spoke to the owner, he was very animated about it but I couldn’t follow what he was saying. I wonder how it got to Thailand.
