New Zealand economy bounces back to pre-pandemic levels, exceeding forecasts

Analysts in New Zealand say the country’s economy has bounced back to pre-pandemic levels, outperforming forecasts. Growth was better than expected, at 1.6% in the first quarter of this year. The growth between January and March exceeded analysts’ expectations, surpassing the anticipated 0.5% increase. The economy has already reversed a 1% contraction seen in the last quarter of 2020. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand has managed to effectively control Covid-19, with no recent cases of community transmission reported. There is no doubt about it the leftwing media love 'progressive' leftwing politicians. Australia was above pre-Covid numbers many months ago, but the media did not make such glowing statements about the Aussie PM - because he is a right winger.

I think the comment from the man at KIWIBANK hit the nail on the head. It's domestic spending that's kept things going. Same as Australia no overseas travel etc everybody loves a bit of retail therapy when they stuck at home with nothing to do. Sadly for Thailand the people don't enjoy that disposable income. There will be problems for Aus and NZ in months to come as this disposable income dries up. Already economists etc are factoring in small business closures as government assistance winds down. Hence the problem with border closures, it's not to stop money coming in it's to stop it going out but eventually it will go out. And I would suggest the problem will be worse for Australia as this government has not plans for when this happens or anything else for that matter.
