For travellers arriving in Thailand, one thing that may be quite interesting is seeing the locals and tourists alike, taking a tuk tuk around the city. In Bangkok and other large cities especially, you can see the cute little motorbikes that have been turned into carriages, being used as taxis. The Thai tuk tuk is unofficially a national emblem of the country, with many souvenirs featuring the miniature taxis. And don't ever think, that Tuk-Tuk's in Phuket are anything like the real Tuk-Tuk's in Bangkok! In Phuket are that these tin can's

And usually ONLY the  one with side entry, small license plate, are usually (legally?) the Phuket Tuk-Tuk version.

The others, back entry, BIG plate, are usually 'two bench busses'.

The difference, if ever the Driver would wanna follow the law, would be:

TukTuk side entrance: chartered fair , tell them where to go, pay full price (200 minimum, I think), even driving alone.

Tuk Tuk rear entrance, Baht bus, 20 Baht/head, hop on - hop off, fixed routes. (like pickups in Pattaya)

(no, the only baht busses on Phuket are the big blue busses, 30baht, 40 baht/ride/person)

And the pricelist is (written on the bottom) THE MAXIMUM price, for the drive from that location to the one on the list. Just: NO Tuk Tuk Driver will accept less as the maximum. But will add some on top, if he think, the load is , perhaps, to heavy! Or has more as one piece of luggage, each! ;-)

In my eyes, they have to be avoided! and they already taking over the roads again!
