Despite hopes from millions of tourists around the world and millions of bar, club, and nightlife staff and owners throughout Thailand, entertainment venues will not be allowed to reopen earlier than the January 16 date originally set. The CCSA had a meeting yesterday that revisited and revised several rules for entering Thailand and Covid-19 safety regulations. While the meeting did make some progressive decisions to lighten the restrictions for Covid-19, they chose not to move up the date they had set for reopening nightlife around the country sooner than January 16, though they did outline some details on what to […]

Does anyone else think that the people most in need of the "Entertainment" venues are the Thai Cabinet/Thai officials themselves? Before anyone claims that they are, I'd have to disagree; no one could be getting some on a regular basis and be that uptight.

If they would just sit back, have a drink or two, get laid and chill, Thailand would be a much better place.

And so the coup rides on in the guise of the pandemic emergency. There is absolutely no doubt that those in control have no interest in the livelihood of millions who are currently unemployed and once again without hope of any improvement. International tourism is already falling way below the hysterical estimates of TAT and will decline further into insignificant numbers. Of course TAT will pay an Italian singer millions to promote tourism to what in effect is an open prison but that will not make one iota of difference. Very soon we will see how the coup leaders will find new ways to keep their jackboot on the throat of the tourism industry as they use the threat of Omicron to justify new restrictions.

the world is going into lockdown now because of variant B.1.1.529 now called Omnicron. Emergency WHO meetings. Preliminary reports suggest it could be 500 times more contagious than Delta.

all it will take is a few cases to show up in Thailand and we will be right back to closed malls and restaurants and 8pm to 4am curfew

if Omnicron reaches Thailand you can kiss 2022 goodbye.

Expected if nothing else. Have to feel for those in the industry, that’s a long time with little support. The uncertainty going forward means the high season is lost for them. Personally I’m going to just wait it out and plan on visiting in the spring. I’ve already book somewhere else for December.

If the new Omricon variant proves to be resistant to vaccines and more infectious than Delta you can kiss the nightlife goodbye for another year.

It's likely it will be at least another year now before meaningful numbers of international tourists turn up in thailand.i don't see how even the big players can hang in now.what tourism buissness any place has the resources to survive 3 years with close to zero revenue.

"Millions"?

Probably a little bit of an exaggeration, and matched by the millions who are perfectly happy that they don't.

No karaoke and no dancefloors will limit a lot of nightclubs, and while I don't know what "drink sharing" means, if it means no bottles and / or mixers that'll be a bit of a damper.

Unless if the mutations that have allowed it to become more infectious and vaccine resistant also make it less virulent.

In that case it would actually be a blessing as reduced virulence means reduced mortality which basically turns this new mutant into an airborne vaccine...

Here's hoping that that's what happens at least! But it'll be a long while before we find out.

Spanish Flu had 3 major waves worldwide (bad mutations) and it lasted 3.5 years - all the indications are that Covid might be the same. Hopefully modern vaccines and medications will shorten that timeframe, and they will certainly lower the deaths, but it could be 2023 before WHO declare that it is over and it becomes another 'flu type' of viral infection.

Probably ??  If it came from TAT it is totally false mate - actually delusional would be a better word to describe TAT statements - in fact most statements by the 'leaders' running Thailand - their track record proves it.

The mention of the new variant in several replies is misleading as the only action the government could take for damage limitation on that is to close the borders again (as several countries have already done). That's unrelated to bars etc. which is the topic.

It will get extended over and over again due to the fact that the CCSA, MOPH, TAT, who else?? Thai government are still in the panic mode every single day non-stop especially another new variant coming up "Omricon", will find out the next couple of weeks if reaches Thailand.

The main reason this time was because the CCSA hasn’t been in the news enough and they’re feeling lonely and unimportant. With all these agencies with their fingers in the pie and not wanting to lose power or relevance, these extensions could go on endlessly. 😕

Sorry Bob - but if the new variant is as bad as first indicated, the bars will not be opened in January at all. In fact, if it is that bad, then the Thai Govt will probably impose even further lockdowns - then by by the Jan bars opening date.

If they keep the gates open - it will come for sure.  Delta arrived with the gates closed - so gates open will make it a certainty - if it is as bad/contagious as they think it might be.  You are right - the next few weeks will be critical.

Dont come to Thailand now .........................

Me sorry too 😉 but the discussion should be "is the government letting this variant come in or not". They should already have closed the borders to potential at risk travelers to attempt to keep it out as many other countries have done. It's totally unrelated to bars opening.
