Well Phuket is already back to normal. At least close to it.

Banglar road is full and they are opening more by the day. Prices for the nightlife hit an all time high and keep rising.

Patong Beach is the tourist trap of SE Asia. Nothing in these desperate times of businesses trying to survive will change that.

Elsewhere in Phuket, things are certainly not normal. But, it's better than it has been for sure. Villa market is much busier. More restaurants open with lights on again, albeit trade is very slow. More traffic on the roads.

It's a great place to live through these times. As a short term international visitor? I would strongly say pass, especially for a family.

But, it's relative. The uptick of Russians is noticeable, and why not when the choice is a bitter covid winter in Moscow.

Kata, Kathu, Karon were last time I've been there still ghost towns. The more traffic I do agree upon how 'relaxt' it was in April 2020.

My wife is Russian and Moscow winter isn't nice but also the fact that even if you got vaccinated here your obligated to participate in the Sputnik experiment as any international vaccine doesn't get recognized. You need a QR-code to enter 'public life' which you can only get with guess what having Sputnik vaccine isn't that a nice chicken egg.

After Pandemic! In case you did not notice..the Pandemic is with us and is not going away soon..

That is like saying the Common Cold is not going away soon, or the common flu, etc...

Point is once everyone who wants a vaccine has one, then there is nothing else to do but open up.  Cannot protect others who will not protect themselves.

Case rates should not even be published, Gibraltar is 100% vaccinated and still getting "cases" daily

No one has died from Covid in Gibraltar since March 2021.

Gibraltor has 0.0045% of population still catching "Covid" daily, while Thailand only has 0.0001% of population catching "Covid" daily.

Cases will always be there, Covid is endemic, we will never be able to say it is gone, which seems to be what CCSA is trying to get the PM to wait for

Whilst I wish we could all forget about Covid, you keep writing the same story, having been explained countless times that it doesn't work like that.

Once everyone who wants to have jabs has had them, the hospitals will still be filled with mostly the unvaccinated, extending waiting lists and preventing normal care for many. Just look at Western countries now that are re-imposing restrictions.

If we really learn from experience, we open up smart, keep some restrictions for balance and avoid the cycle of "free for all, followed by lockdowns again".

The fact that the virus isn't going away is no reason to "let it rip".

At this point I think we are better off doing a global lockdown - there are variants emerging that escape all current vaccines.

Also, can you imagine 7.9 billion people needing boosters every 6 months and then still run the risk of long-covid each time they get reinfected?

Life is short, but let's not make it shorter, or harder. Let's get our collective shit together.

Hi,

With Bangkok as first point of arrival by air (26 Nov) and a one night Test and Go stay, are there further requirements before I board another flight two days later to Ko Samui?

Many thanks.

I don’t believe there are any further restrictions once your PCR test comes back negative. You will need to keep proof of vaccination with you and proof of the negative PCR test and don’t forget to wear your face mask. Other than that, you should be free to travel.

Thank you Soidog!

I agree and am vaccinated, yet some people will never get vaccinated.  So yes, restrictions will be needed, but that is very simple to me.  Just like No shoes, No Shirt, No service, any private or public building can have rules on who enters.

Lockdowns are not productive for those who are vaccinated IMO.  Out on the street many dangers here;  cars, motorcycles, soi dogs, crazy people, and now unvaccinated people.

The world will learn to live with it I believe.  Pattaya hospitals I frequent have not been full of unvaccinated, but I can see your point that if I need something at a hospital and its beds are full, it would be unfortunate for me.

Am unsure how an Oncologist or Cardiologist would be too busy to treat me because too many people are being hospitalized for a respiratory virus.  Totally different area of the hospital AFAIK

Just a little more difficult to differentiate the unvaccinated from the ones not wearing shoes or shirt 😉 unless...⬇️

Worldwide we clearly see that Covid hospital capacity is mostly used by the unvaccinated. And that's logical as the vaccinated are increasing in number and even if infected they don't require hospitalisation anymore in most cases.

While you're correct that hospitals have different wards and specialisms, they usually share ICU capacity and many complex operations are cancelled if there is very little emergency care capacity that they may well require. Also don't forget that the whole organisation within hospitals has drastically changed, reducing the number of patients that can be seen altogether. Some hospitals have converted completely to Covid centers, reducing capacity for other treatments to zero, whilst others run normally. Of course they try to mitigate all these problems, but it all adds to longer delays.

LOL.  everyone who is vaccinated in Thailand has it on the cell phone Mor Prom app and/or on Paper.

Any business, mall, restaurant, bar, or movie theater will check before you enter.  Am sure it can be as easy as scanning a QR code in the near future.

This is just a part of the New Normal everyone has been talking about.

Conspiracy clowns who refuse to vaccinate will be left out in the cold, hoping to get a delivery of food from Grab as they cannot go get anything themselves.  I foresee even 7-11 not allowing you to buy your Leo or Chang without proof of vaccines and a mask.

Am sure many unvaccinated will hang on as long as possible, but many of those people will expire just like those in the 50's-60's who refused polio, diphtheria, measles, smallpox, and rubella vaccines

You'd hope so. Then again, there's so much fraud with QR codes and vaccine passports already, that it will be very difficult to enforce. In Europe and US it's daily news.

Makes sense to me. The best indicator of whether the numbers are picking up, is the total arrivals at airports. Eventually, the pool of returnees must diminish. I also wonder why people nit-pick about returnees. do they not also add to the economy?

Very easy to explain to you, returnees, people with family here, expats or people who come for work or back to their companies are not living in hotels and in the tourist hot spot (exclude Chonbury/Pattaya). So it is quite a difference between arrivals or tourists. But sure all contribute to the economy
