I have been chased by a soidog before while riding a bike. Or had to walk past a few barking soidogs at night, being quite nervous. 

I never thought about jumping in a pond to get away from a dog. 

Even if I would, then I wouldn't pull the person who is with me, into the pond with me.

Yes! The story does look dubious. He raped her and then brought her to a secluded location. I don't think the purpose of that was to restore liberty to her.
