News Forum - TAT: 400,000 tourist in 2021, 18 million in 2022 worth 1 trillion

Recommended Posts

The November 1 reopening of Thailand has received mixed results, with Pattaya reportedly seeing the vast majority of arrivals being expats coming home, and Hua Hin welcoming less than 100 of the 100,000 predicted tourists. But, as always, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has nothing but rosy predictions for the boom that will start any minute, with TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn saying yesterday that he expects 1 trillion baht of tourism revenue next year from 18 million international tourists. The Governor pointed out that the reopening started with about 2,000 arrivals per day, but has now increased to 3,000 to […]

The story TAT: 400,000 tourist in 2021, 18 million in 2022 worth 1 trillion as seen on Thaiger News.

Thailand is going to be in recession for years to come, if not a decade. You do not need to be a genius to see that coming. Jobs lost do not come back just like that…it takes a significant amount of time to rebuild the countless small companies gone over the past two years. Same thing applies to the tourism industry. Clearly people at TAT are ridiculous embarrassments.

Rotfl. TAT executives and their forecasts are fascinating and proof of the power of psychotropics. No one running a commercial enterprise in the tourism business gives the slightest credence to all the myriad forecasts of numbers & revenue. If they did their businesses would be bankrupt even faster than the current expectations. It would be instructive if the salaries of TAT were linked directly to the actual numbers achieved in comparison to forecast. Then there would be true accountability and sensible forecasts.

I do not believe in the massive arrival of tourists because in addition to other destinations in the sun are opening up. and Europe is sinking into a new wave of COVID. but here in Patong, I find that there is a lot of work in the shops. they believe the government's predictions ...

I am planning my 30 day vacation for March 1st, to any SE Asian country that does not require cv19 test on arrival.

We will not be visiting Thailand until the same applies - no pcr tests on arrival and no quarantine. We are fully vaccinated and fully insured and by March next year we will have both had booster shots - what is the problem??  Is it all just about making money from pcr tests and mandatory quarantine??  How can they possibly think that most people cannot see straight through their rubbish.

Don't do that -- there would be no TAT ---  what will we do for a good laugh everday?

I sometimes wonder if this is similar to Pravda of the old Soviet Union who dished out bs on a regular basis.  Funny thing is that most of the people knew it was bs but no one could do anything about it so it worked to further suppress and demoralize the people because they were powerless to change anything.

That depends. Their official salary? Or their very cleverly invested small savings that make them multi-millions? 🤔

So true - and it is a common denominator in all Socialist/Communist Dictatorships.  In 'real' Democracies where the media has true freedom and has no fear, they call out khrapp such as TAT announcements.

Unfortunately what is happening in many Western countries is suppression of news stories that may not follow the official line or offers another viewpoint - and this is being done through manipulating search algorithms.

That is true and is a worry - but it is still better than 'official' double-speak and lies coming from 'Party Headquarters' that no one is allowed to criticise or complain about.

The power that Facebook, Google etc have over society through manipulating the information available to people is going to be addressed.  At the moment they are 'getting away with it' but eventually they will be pulled back down from their towers - they always are - just a matter of time and 'temperature'.

Good luck. I am starting to feel like this requirement will stay forever now...unless Sars-cov 2 simply disapears.

My mate arrived yesterday in Thailand from the Uk with a 2 months tourist visa. Got his test result this morning: positive. Obviously, no symptom, nothing. Obviously he is really p****d off. 10 days quarantine somewhere (does not know where yet) to start his holidays.

Sorry for your friends situation, be nice to know of the costs now incurred by his forced quarantine. I'm sure an update would be well appreciated by the Thaiger community.

Cases like this must stand as a clear warning to other tourists thinking of taking the risk to come to a holiday destination that is still mainly closed for business.

Yeap, unhappy is an understatement and he is so frustated after going through the nightmare of the paperwork process the past 3 weeks all the way to his hotel.

He stayed last night in Pattaya and at the moment, he does not even know where he is going to end spending the next 10 days. Probably won't know the full costs until the end...?? But once I know, I will for sure let others know.

Sad situation, though I'm sure he knew the risk and took an informed decision. Hope he tests negative soon, but be prepared that some will take up to 21 days to clear. At least his trip is long enough to still enjoy after quarantine.
