Beginning November 29, Singapore will allow vaccinated travellers from five more countries, including Indonesia and India, to enter the country without undergoing a quarantine or isolation period. The effort is part of the country’s vaccinated travel lane scheme and will be expanded to cover travelers from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates beginning early next month, according to the Transport ministry, Reuters reports. Under the Singapore’s vaccinated travel lane programme, the stay-at-home order is waived for those travelling from approved countries, including the US and UK. Singapore needs to make these moves to ensure its place as a transport hub in Asia

We were getting the paperwork together to do the Phuket Sandbox, then Thailand announced changes for the 1st Nov, but with very little detail. In the meantime Singapore opened up the VTL with very clear instructions, so we went to Singapore instead.

Biggest issue was the UK NHS Vaccine Certificates omitting middle names and therefore, differing from the name in the Passport. The Singapore VTP process did not like this. And was queried again at Singapore immigration. Luckily we were able to convince them we were the same people! Worth dropping an email to:

covid-status.complaints@nhs.net

If enough people complain they might add middle names to the UK NHS Vaccine Certificate, and make travelling for UK citizens easier.

We had to do PCR test (48 hours, and UKAS accredited not registered) before departure, so a bit tight. (This has now changed to an ART test). Then another PCR test at Changi airport (very efficient, but S$160 each). Then private car or taxi to your residence/hotel where you need to quarantine until the results are emailed to you. We got ours on 5 hours, then were free to roam.

Now in Singapore, and its quite restrictive. Have to use their TraceTogether App on the Phone, or hardware token to check-in everywhere, but you soon get used to it. Bars and restaurants all open, but only two people allowed together (5 from same household now). Have to wear masks everywhere, inside and outside. Only exception is strenuous exercise.

Some signs of economic toll of pandemic, especially in the tourist areas. Chinatown pretty decimated. Quite a few empty units along Boat Quay. Hopefully will start to recover now Singapore is open to a lot of the world.

Still hopeful to go to Thailand (from Singapore), but will probably wait until Thai Pass has sorted out the teething problems and defer to after Christmas since all the bars are still shut in Pattaya where our apartment is.
