is VIETNAM doing the same? interested to.move to VIETNAM as the longstay visa seem to have more prescribed condition like raising mandatory health insurance to 3 million baht，most likely the older guy has to leave or face big premium

If you are married to a Vietnamese it is much more straight forward to get permanent residency, well 3 year residency(renewable). An old friend of mine in Hanoi has been living there many years after he married a lady there.

Probably, but then again it isnt the Commie way to spend their resources on other nationalities

Interestingly as it’s clearly an alternative. Only been once but it was a great place to visit and was planning on going again sooner than later. Need more details but it doesn’t look like there is a test upon arrival or the one day quarantine. I don’t see any insurance requirement either.

You are correct. They are doing what every other country is doing that is opening up to vaxd foreign arrivals.....every country except Thailand.

I suppose it all depends if you want to risk being quarantined if only one person on the plane with you (in any seat) tests positive within a fortnight... 

... but the cost will be taken from the $2,000 in cash (or taken from your credit card) that you've paid on deposit on arrival - reduced from the previous $3,000 - and anything more for treatment will be taken from your mandatory $50,000 of health insurance ...

Ummm ..... maybe read the fine print ..... ..... all that's changed is the quarantine and test on arrival.

Maybe you need to read it again.

I may be wrong, but I don't think "the United States, Singapore, and all other countries that are accepting foreign vaxed travel with just a negative pcr test" quarantine everyone on the plane if only one person on it tests positive within a fortnight, and charge you for it...

... or make you pay a $2,000 deposit on arrival to cover any Covid expenses ...

... or make you have $50,000 of acceptable health insurance (or pay $90 for health insurance every 20 days) ...

... do they ?

Sorry, I forgot to mention the current total ban on the sale of alcohol in Cambodia - not just in restaurants and bars, but anywhere.

In hindsight, maybe I've misunderstood you and all that matters to you is that Thailand is still doing a PCR test on arrival while the others aren't, regardless of any other conditions.

If so, fair enough, but I think that being given the choice between:

a) Mandatory health insurance; and 2,000 baht for a PCR test, followed by open beer bars, nightclubs, karaoke and gogo's, openly selling booze with bands, dancing and live music, where you can remove your mask in set entertainment areas, ... and

b) Mandatory health insurance or a $90 bill every 20 days; plus a $2,000 deposit on arrival, followed by no go-go's (ever) and currently not only no beer bars, nightclubs or karaoke, but no alcohol for sale anywhere, where you can't remove your mask anywhere in public in urban areas (except when eating in a restaurant), and you risk being quarantined in a 'state facility' for 14 days at your own expense if anyone anywhere on your flight tests positive within 14 days .....

..... well, I think more people will choose option 'a' and pay the 2,000 baht and have the PCR test.

Not planning on going to Cambodia...... but it does show the impetus for countries opening up. There's also the added competition for the tourist dollar. The landscape is shifting in Asia...... The country that makes it less difficult, will profit.

It's well worth going to Cambodia - not just for Siem Reap but because when you go to Thailand afterwards you'll probably appreciate it that much more.

... and the beer's cheap, at least when it becomes available again.

Not sure those conditions will apply in the near future. After all they just surprised announced the change. It only makes sense any changes to the rules would take a few days to catch up. Hence why I said we need to wait and see more details. Regardless it’s still becomes a legitimate alternative, which just a day ago it wasn’t.

The killing fields and Tuol Sleng / S21 are an eye-opener because, at least so far, they've neither been dressed up and hyped, nor are they a part of their history that Cambodia has tried to cover up, hide or forget about.

It's not being ghoulish, but they're just things you should make a point of seeing if you go.

Yes it is all about the details but I really like the small french colonial style city Kampot. Nice views aginst both river and hills. Mostly decent farangs there too. Can go there by bus from Phnom Penh bus station. This nI look forward to.
