The tourism sector in Pattaya is looking to the near future after they say no new international tourists have been seen in the first few days of Thailand’s reopening so far. Tourism businesses say that they’re seeing domestic travellers coming for weekend trips and long holidays, and the heads of the industry say they don’t foresee numbers to increase for at least a few more weeks. It is believed that the stringent rules and regulations on things like nightlife and alcohol consumption, coupled with the complicated process of entering Thailand is preventing tourists from visiting in any noticeable numbers. "Pattaya has particularly been hampered by the restrictions of the reopening, as, while other destinations have been granted special permission to sell alcohol, Pattaya remains frustratingly dry with the full alcohol ban is still in place even in restaurants. Also, the numerous cheap buses and direct shuttle services that operated to whisk people from Bangkok to Pattaya have been replaced by the need for SHA+ certified taxis, which have been in limited supply, making it difficult and costly to visit the resort town."

C'mon Patts, haven't you figured it out yet?

You ARE being deliberately hampered by the government in Bangkok because the Bangkok middle-class is politically important to the current government and you are not.

Time to step up a campaign/fight and embarrass the Bangkok government to play fair, or else lose out for the rest of the year. It is worth remembering that 'even paranoids have enemies'.

Remember; the days of 'Thailand' are over, now it is 'The Kingdom of Bangkok and Surroundings'.

Maybe its (past) time for Pattaya to re-set itself as a retirement destination, like Chiang Mai but without the smog, rather than just as sun, sex and sand.

Sun, sex, sand and senility, perhaps ...

Entry restrictions and rules are effecting the numbers sure. However they are doing that to every location equally. To get no one means something else is effecting the numbers. Could it be a party city without clubs, entertainment venues and alcohol might be a factor too? I doubt Pattaya will get many the second half of the month either. I plan to visit Pattaya next month. However if the situation remains the same, I will just visit Phuket and Bangkok instead.

Who wants to jump through so many hoops to go to a country still full of restrictions. I want a vacation not interrogation and restrictions.

I suspect the majority of potential visitors to Thailand have a very much  similar opinion. Its just TAT and the government have their heads so far up each other's back sides they wouldn't see the logic.

How do you say fu in Thai? I lost hundreds of dollars trying to get into Thailand last May with30 different documents. Paid for quarantine and long stay hotels with receipts. I will never come to Thailand again. I dropped over 100k on my 11 trips there only to have the door slammed in my face. Never Again Thailand. No more money. Now you know why no one showed up!

Actually I don't hink I have heard anyone say anything nice about any of them, just the contrary in which is stuff I cannot post.

Actually for Pattaya I have two modes. One is for me and the family to visit with our Bangkok family for 1 -2 days (no night life required), and the second is to go with friends who visit me from the USA. So looks like only the 1rst one is open for the future if they keep killing the fun and strangling things. Sad thing also is if they keep it up it looks as if none of my friends will ever come here again unless nightlife is back in motion. Better places to go visit and go have day and night time fun.

Unless you want to come to see some temples, then no reason to come. It is dead.

It's a feature not a bug. This is exactly what the govt. wants. They think Pattaya is a blot on Thailand's image, and wants to shut it down. They are not going to let the pandemic go to waste. If they really believe that majority of the tourists come here for the "natural beauty" or "culture" or "food", lol, they are in for a big surprise. IMO Pattaya and Thailand's nightlife in general account for at least 50 - 60% of the tourists in Thailand.
