Have booked a Decembe Tourist 61 early morning arrival in BKK return flight and hotel so far  !   Guess the hotel needs to be cancelled for the 7 issues required to  comply with one day quarantine  for quarantine free entry  test results  !                                                                   Option 1 Pay the one day late 500b fine or get away with it  as in quarantine for the day waiting test results ?                                                                                                                                          Option 2 Pay the 500b fine if required . Customs usually allow you  the extra day  !                                                                                      Option 3  Pay for the 60 day tourist visa application or just get the 30 day stamp apply for another 30/60 ? extension?                                                                                                                     Option 4 Pay another 2000 extension and be strictly legal ?

It depends on what for your case is the easiest:

#1 - Applying for the 60-day Tourist Visa in your home-country (and pay the Thai Embassy fee for such Visa)

#2 - Not applying for any Visa, but entering Thailand Visa Exempt, which will provide you with a 30-day permission to stay.  And then apply in the last week of that permission to stay at ANY Thai Immigration Office for a 30-day extension of stay (cost 1.900 THB)

There will be a slight difference in cost for the mandatory covid-19 insurance as you would need it for the period for which you will be stamped in on entry (i.e 30 days for VE / 60 days for TV).  Unless you fly with Emirates as they provide that insurance FREE as part of your flight-ticket and with a return-ticket your full trip will be covered.

Note that in both cases you would also need to buy an outbound 'throw-away' flight-ticket (e.g. BKK - Ho Chi Minh City - approx 1.200 THB in pre-covid times) with flight date ultimately on the date for which you will be stamped in by border-immgration on arrival.  But it's well possible that your 61-day flight back would be accepted (even when stamped in for only 60-days for your Tourist Visa), but you would surely need the 'throw-away' outbound flight ticket for a VisaExempt entry as the airline would not let you board without it.

Note: No problem returning 1 day later than your permission to stay, a 1-day 'overstay' does not invoke the 500 THB per day overstay (but do watch out that you do not encounter any trouble with Thai police during that last day on which you will be on overstay).

Yes will do 60 day as me thinks extension on 30 for 60 not an option ? One day late maybe?

The one-time extension of 30 days for which you can apply from your VisaExempt entry, will be added to the 30-day permission to stay you received on entry, thus providing you effectively with initial 30 + extended 30 days.  So there is no need to wait till last day to apply for it, you can do it from 14 days early till last day of your initial permission to stay.

Up to you to decide what is easiest for you > applying in your home-country at the Thai Embassy for the 60-day Tourist Visa, or applying for the 30-day extension once you are in Thailand.

In both cases you will be 1 day on overstay when you booked your return flight 61 days after arrival, but you will not be hit with the 500 THB fine per day overstay by border-immigration when you leave the country, if it is only 1 day.

Alternative pop into LAOS in an out would be interesting solving the issue ?

Current border restrictions would make a border-hop to Laos either impossible or extremely inconvenient.

Used a week in Cambodia to  get another 30 days without hassle of passport return .  The assortment of drinks on offer was fun !

Cambodian border closed. open for E -Visa 21st October. How did you get in earlier for your week?
