longwood50 Posted October 5, 2021 #75705 Share Posted October 5, 2021 (edited) It is not like 500 or 700 baht is a lot of money. However, when car dealership business, hotel business or restaurant business does not have customers, they run promotions to entice more people to come. They do not raise their prices. Also, tourists to Thailand already have to jump through they myriad of hoops to get a fit to fly, Covid tests, and mandatory insurance. if they wanted to say ok 500 baht covers you for your Covid coverage while you are in Thailand that is fine. Otherwise it is just a scheme to squeeze more dollars putting them in the hands of those who control the government. This idea that it will be used to make Thailand "more enticing" to the tourists is pure rhetoric to disguise the money grab. If you want people to come, whether it is to your business or your country you make it more attractive and put fewer burdens on them. It seems as though this government thinks that Thailand is the sole destination choice for tourists and they will come no matter how high the hurdles. I can tell you, we took a cruise and one of the ports was India. They wanted $100 USD for a visa per person. At $100 per person plus cost of shore excursion we told cruise line we did not even want to get off the ship. Later we got alternative of an e-visa for only $25 USD so we did that. Candidly, it was not even worth the $25 per person to get off the ship. You have places like Las Vegas giving away airline fees, free hotels, chips in the casino, free meals to entice customers. There are 7 countries offering promotions to pay for your airfare to get to them. And Thailand is hiking fees, making insurance requirements etc to add extra expense and burden. TRAVEL NEWS 7 destinations that will basically pay you to visit once the pandemic is over g Dmitry V Petrenko Your next international vacay just got a whole lot cheaper. There are several countries and destinations that have decided to take responsibility for restarting tourism and enticing foreign visitors back after the coronavirus pandemic, and travel lovers will be the ones to benefit. While overseas trips may not be a possibility in the immediate future, many nations are taking it upon themselves to ensure that they are your first port of call post-pandemic, by offering to pay for some of your holiday and travel fees. 1. In the UK's case, up to $240, Aus $135+, the US $75+. Thailand 's just been stupid enough to not just announce them, which the TAT deserve full credit for, but to highlight them by trying to justify them. DontacoXII Posted October 5, 2021 #75744 Share Posted October 5, 2021 The reason backing into a parking space is safer is because there is no traffic in the parking space whereas backing out of a parking space is backing into traffic. Many companies here in the US require employees driving company cars to back into spaces for that reason. Jason Posted October 5, 2021 #75799 Share Posted October 5, 2021 Tim and Jay.....oh Dear..... Firstly, does anyone what to pay a tax for visiting any country?? Of course not! Secondly, it seems you pick and choose comments that are easily "padded away". Tim knows what I mean because it's a cricketing term that Aussies know only too well. It's ok Jay, Tim will explain it to you :) Lastly, there is an opportunity for Thailand to grab a fair slice of the tourist potential...but the more the conditions...the less chance. You can't expect that tourists will be tested and fully vaccinated, when the Thai population of the destination (Phuket, Koh Samui etc) aren't tested and fully vaccinated. Calvin Posted October 5, 2021 #75884 Share Posted October 5, 2021 Another way for Thai government to extract more money from farang tourist, because obviously tourist don't pay enough, Thailand getting to expensive nowadays, better to go Vietnam, Laos, or Cambodia, have great beaches, equally as interesting as the kingdom, but half the price, its cheaper to buy certain items in central London then it is here in southern Thailand, on the island, which is a joke. I hope the Thai government sorts it out, before its to late.
