Recommended Posts

Epidemiologists from Thailand’s Disease Control Department have been dispatched by the Ministry of Public Health to Phuket. The move is intended to help curb the spread of new Covid infections on the island; Phuket has regularly seen 200 cases a day over the last couple of weeks and hospital beds have reached 90% occupancy. Public Health Permanent Secretary Dr Kiattibhoom Vongrachit says the team of epidemiologists and disease control officials are going to Phuket to assist health officials and restore the confidence of locals and visitors of the island’s safety. The doctor says out of around 30,000 Sandboxers to arrive, […]

Good to see. hope they get it under control before I finally get there. Here in Australia there's plenty of these epidemiologists (experts) who get on the news telling everybody what they are supposed to be doing but none seem to know how to do much about getting rid of it. If my car has a problem I know enough about the pre computer stuff but take it to an expert, (mechanic) and he/she knows how to fix it. Usually that's what experts do. Good luck and keep us posted Thaiger people.

Scary … what ain’t they telling us. As the numbers increase, they now start sending specialists to Phuket. At least they don’t have to jump through hoops to get on the island. This information should also be in a poster at the World Expo tent the TAT will be setting up to increase tourists to the island and mainland. Next Chiang Mai?

The vaccination rate for collective immunity depends on the effective reproduction number called R0.

Why continue to talk about 70% the Wuhan virus is no longer circulating ! Wuhan historical virus had an R0 of 3 (1- 1/R0 = 66%). Rounded to 70%

The R0 for the Delta variant is 6 or 7. If we take 7, the formula (1 - 1/R0) gives 85.7%. it's just the right value for this variant ...

That's 85.7% of the total population from newborn to oldest centenary.

OMG ! Children under 12 cannot be vaccinated for the moment, are they more than 14% ?

In the meantime, we must be coercive with all people identified as fragile so that they are 100% vaccinated.

And live with this disease as long as 99% of the population is not vaccinated.

The other point is the barrier gestures.

The proper use of the mask is not only to position it well on the face but also to live with it without ever touching it except that it is put in the trash.

If this is not understood and it is used as a fashion accessory, it is lost.

It is to this rigor that we must educate. it's long, complicated, difficult.

No, you started this discussion before already and it's tedious.

The general public doesn't need to behave like a surgeon. The mask is simply an aid in the total of measures that are -all- not perfect. But as a whole they prevent worse.

How ironic if the Sandbox closes, just as the government decide to open up!

I can't see too many people rushing to leave countries that have battled  for months with Covid19. Who have endured massive restrictions on their liberties, and managed to come through to a better place. To then spend a fortune, to come to a part of the world, where they are potentially placing themselves back in harms way.

Maybe not just Sandboxers, but all those on Phuket should be concerned over these reports.

Indeed.

And throughout the country.

Because if they can't control it in a "controlled environment on an island" with everyone looking-on closely since the hyped opening 2.5 months ago,

then they certainly won't be able to handle it elsewhere.

(getting tired of the repetition yet?)

Re, the 90% bed occupancy. Does anyone know if they're including the ten hotels that they were bringing online, which they told us about last week? If that capacity has been used too, then it really is getting away from them.

How to get rid of it!  It was once described back in the spring of 2020 as "Unprecedented ".

This poison will be here ,no getting rid of it. imop

Its spread by people,no getting rid of people

Absolutely correct. It’s hard to know what the real picture is in Thailand. As ever, it’s a mystery wrapped in a riddle. Deaths have been around the 150-300 mark for weeks, if not months now. Outside of Bangkok they claim to be bumping along at 10-50 in most reported numbers. How can this possibly be the case? I have never placed any value in the case numbers, but I’m now even doubting the deaths also. One thing is for sure, this virus is not under control in Thailand and they should not be looking to open up at this stage.

I hang mine on motorcycle handlebars when not in use

Thats not ok then??

I could have sworn they sent epidimiologists to Phuket last month or the month before, and I remember, at that time, thinking 'WTF is an epidimiologist necessary for on the scene'?  Their science doesn't require hands-on observations.

Seems that I am asking myself that again. What exactly is the person, or people, supposed to do to change the situation?
