Never taken more than a few days to get an appointment in the past.

The US embassy does not do Passport renewal by appointment anymore.  You have to complete the form and mail it in FYI.

And damned quickly, too.  I got my passport much faster here, than I would in the US, where I hear they are backed up months and months.
