While Thailand has begun to see a downward trend in daily infections that is hoped to continue, Phuket has been rising sharply each day. But yesterday saw a drop in new Covid-19 infections to 204 people while no new deaths were reported, although the Phuket Sandbox did see 2 new infections of vaccinated international travellers on the island. The province has extended strict entry requirements in hopes of curbing Covid-19 further. The Phuket Provincial Public Health Office reported in their daily Covid-19 situation report that medical facilities added a large number of new beds to stay ahead of increasing hospitalisation. […]

This is a worrying trend. If international tourists are fully vaccinated and tested negative prior to departure, they have either contracted Covid on the plane or in Phuket. Delta is extremely contagious (that's a fact). The Thai Government will need to double it's efforts to maintain the sandbox or it will fail because of a lack of confidence among international tourists, that it is indeed a sandbox. Inaction to preserve the covid free concept of the sandbox, will lead to it's failure. International tourists just won't be prepared to take the risk.

Seems Phuket has not had the memo from central government.

Less tests = Less cases

Come on Phuket get with the plan...

That is the plan

They've got 980 that tested positive with antigen tests in isolation, they've not been counted on the daily totals, they are not added to daily totals until they get a pcr test and test positive.. why are they in isolation up to 2 weeks waiting for pcr tests? ..

Another Ex prison opened as a hospitel. Surely Phuket didn’t have that many prisons?

Vain attempt at keeping the numbers down.

No sane person believes them.

According to the article, 29 in the "Covid Care Centres are waiting for their test results but the other 980 are just ... umm ... waiting.

Incidence rate in Phuket 366 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

It's just huge ...

Why the incidence rate is not used in Thailand, it helps compare regions.

With 85 sandboxers testing positive, their rate is actually even higher than Phuket's.

Hmmmm ........🙄

I imagine the image of TAT standing on the beach with arms out pushing back breaking waves that is Truth

The waves continue 24 hrs a day--365 a year, yet the logic of thais think they can make others believe them

The useless concept of face and the worldwide access to the internet will be the downfall of Thailand....

the incidence rate is measured over 7 rolling days.

To calculate the Sandboxers rate you need the number of arrivals from the last 7 days and the positive tests from the last 7 days ...

I don't see why Sandboxers should have a lower impact.

Remember, the vaccine does not prevent having the disease but the serious forms ...

No, the 85 sandboxers was the total, not over 7 days - over 7 days that would be seriously horrendous!

If the sandboxers' rate is higher than anyone else's, as it is at least on paper, then you're literally importing Covid to Phuket despite all the checks and restrictions.

That seems a bit counter-productive.
