Was it the founders who made their website and app one of the most complicated to negotiate, with surprisingly high fares at the end. And refuse to take Bangkok Bank debit cards.

Hear! Hear!  I spent way too much time on their website yesterday, looking for flights that appeared, then disappeared, fares that changed by the minute and the incredibly confusing process for determining if I had the proper box checked for a passenger in my friend list that wasn't me.

I hate their new app, and while I will probably continue to fly AA, as it's reasonably convenient, I am ditching their non-flight services and applications.

My thoughts exactly. If a similar option exists, I usually choose the other one. It’s just the case that AA has some routes and times nailed down and is the only viable choice.

I was in Yogyakarta (Indonesia) when Mount Merapi erupted in 2010. Two of my upcoming domestic flights were cancelled. One was with AA and the other with Lion Air.

Can you guess what happened?

1. Lion Air issued a CASH refund at the airport. Took all of two minutes.

2. AA directed me to their website (Internet was down) and then their non-responsive customer service hotline. Took hours to get through. Eventually, was offered a “credit shell” which was fiddly to apply for and I never ended up using.

AA scored an own goal with their handling of that 👍

As a general rule, if a company wins some sort of an award for some outstanding aspect of their business, I pull out my red marker and put a line through them.
