News Forum - Thai activists warn that new hair guidelines will allow schools to be more strict
It depends what level of teaching you are looking for. If you want to teach in a university like a Chulalongkorn then you most likely need an agent (not essential). Other places, for example Nakhon Ratchasima University less so. If on the other hand you simply want to reach in your average school, my advice is pay them a visit. Ask around town and speak to other foreign teachers. I know several teachers who have been teaching in Thailand for many years and have all got jobs by simply calling in to schools and enquiring. Good luck with finding something. -

News Forum - Two young Thai activists in serious condition after staging hunger strike over lèse-majesté law
It’s good to see a topic of quality being posted for a change. I think these youngsters are extremely brave kids. They are putting more mature people to shame. I’m disappointed at the reaction their protest has attracted. Millions of people are on the breadline and in deep debt in Thailand. Living in near poverty and with little prospect their kids will have a better life. Here is a group of kids trying to bring about change and people can’t even be bothered to turn out in numbers to support them. Most of these kids come from fairly well off families. I think if I was them, I’d get a McDonalds, Feed my face and get my parents to fund overseas education. Id then get a job outside Thailand and let the place rot! -

News Forum - Thailand tourist fee: 300 baht via air, 150 baht via land/sea
We started talking about Nana I was talking in general. I’ve never been one for considering service is about high end or low end. In fact, I find service in some high end venues to be false and uncomfortable. I’ve never been one for wine waiters and having someone place my napkin on my knee. I think the whole spectrum of Thai customer care has declined. This is part of why Thai Airways is in the mess it’s in. -

Yes Paul, but we had a lot of friends and we could drink there without to much pesting from the staff for drinks. We had fun nights, and we were a tight bunch staying in contact on the same forum. If I now go to Bangla, I have one or two bars where I can have a drink without having to say no every minute to someone asking a dring that costs 300 Baht. -

I was talking more established type places, higher end Because quite frankly, I have always thought service in a lot of smaller places in Thailand was always a bit indifferent and sucked And as you have pointed out, add the phones in now and forget it! Where I lived in Patong had a restaurant and pool and a small bar on the lower level The Brit owner was super cool and very generous The girls who worked there sat around eating all day and maybe helping 10 cusotmers, he paid them pretty good If it got even the tiniest bit busy, they would have meltdowns
