Of course the corporation and business owners oppose this.  It will force them to receive less profit and modify their business operations, which are predicated on paying extremely low wages for their labor force.

I remember reading, in a James Michener novel years ago, that a character - an international business consultant - said there is nothing more expensive to a society than poorly paid workers.

While I believe that Thai workers, in the minimum wage strata, are underpaid, the government is doing little to move the country forward economically besides relying on ever-increasing tourism, and hopeful international investment.

Where are the programs to educate and train Thais to be competitive in modern manufacturing and technology advancements?  Our neighbors are going to bury us.

Just this past week, Srettha was touting that big bucks were coming from Microsoft, while just days later, MS announced they were investing US$2.2 billion in Malaysia.  So far, all we have heard from MS is that they will invest in a "datacenter" in Thailand with no amount named.

Not quite sure where any advanced computer programmers, AI specialists or data managers can be found in this country.  I think they're hiding.

The minimum wage should be indexed against the rate of inflation. At the very least, it would spare us from having to listen the hackneyed responses from the COC every time the issue is raised.
