Chromecast in Thailand

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used a chromecast device in Thailand?

I was thinking of taking mine and connecting it up when I travel around. Not that I’ll be sitting around watching the telly all day, it’s just good to have and Thai cable isn’t the most exciting.

Any pitfalls or access trouble? Would be glad to hear of any experiences.

Mine, bought in UK, worked fine over here, and still does. Many Smart TVs now have Chromecast built in.

I also have a Firestick which also does it's job over here.

Taking your point; many people with smart TVs don't  know their capabilities, me included.  I was about to buy one of those Android set top boxes, until my Son pointed out that my smart  TV had that capability fitted in it already. Once connected to the internet, the smart TV is just one big assed computer/TV combo.

For those who prefer free-up options wherever one happens to be, both Chromecast and Firestick can be easily configurated into one's mobile unit - laptop, notebook, tablets and phones.

Please explain. How can I get my Firestick into my phone?

Go with FireStick,

Chromecast can be quite "sensitive" to WIFI poor connection

Oh well too late, already got the Chromecast. I was all set to get the Amazon 4K and then some geezer at the store told me Chromecast was the way to go.

I never know who to believe these days :)

Chromecast is more limited, need a phone to operate, or maybe the latest version has changed

FireStick has everything loaded, Netflix, PrimeVideo, Disney+ etc... and a remote control

it feels like a real TVbox,

Chromecast is not bad, just more phone oriented, or maybe the new version has a remote and comes pre-loaded with all the apps instead of using your phone to broadcast to your TV

Thank you for the reply. My Chromecast is all set up. I still like the generic smart tv interface I already had before i got it.

The chromecast keeps recommending all sorts of crap im not interested in even after i go into the settings.

It has a remote, which works okay.

The acid test will be when I travel with it

My Chromecast is working fine in Thailand. Chiang Mai, Nakhon Sawan and BKK over the past two weeks. No issues with throttling. I use the Octohide free VPN.

Watched UK free to air, news and SkySports with no probs.

PS - Chromecast has a remote in the latest model. The latest FireStick is a big PITA and not recommended IMO.

Yeah Ive been using the Chromecast TV version here for 2 years now(bought from Lazada) have sideloaded apps for movies and TV series, but just recently paid for netflix for 169 baht a month, 720p , What was I thinking, its so cheap.  The cost of 500mps unlimited plus netflix sub is still under 600 baht a month, And the sideload apps have ads and can buffer,

I would be curious to know if the netflix acc can go from Thai to the USA or Aus etc without having to pay the local rate.

I pay 5 quid a month for Netflix, Prime, Disney+, Peacock, Sky, Fox and others. Viewable through the Chromecast or even better, straight through the IBO Player app on the TV.

Just used it in Thailand and PI with no probs 👍

That looks a great deal, I remember first moving here being on all the forums trying to find a good affordable tv solution, With 7mps for 599 month, found nothing, then over the years they upped the speed then went to fibre, I still never bothered looking for a streaming device, then went into the tot office a few years ago to get the iptv replaced and was offered the 500mps with a sim for the car and an iptv for 399, I had no idea everything was getting so cheap and worthwhile, I was watching YT and side apps on the TV.,

I remember now it was TRUE tv that the only thing available back then.

Would like to here from other members about what viewer/caster you are using and how much etc..👍 In Thailand would be a preference. Because they have some weird laws about money transactions regarding OS accounts.

Same here, I wasn't aware until about a year ago. Saw a guy watching Fox news on his laptop in a cafe, asked him where he got it from, he filled me in, I made enquiries and signed up. Irish IPTV company, signed up through Discord and paid over Paypal. I run it through the chromecast, my tablet and home TV, with or without VPN.

Does paypal still work in Thailand?, we went through some big issues a few years ago, I gave up on it when I found I could pay on EBAY just by using my banks atm card, lost the buyer guarantee that paypal had but I can find most stuff on Lazada anyway.

Not too sure, I rarely use it. Probably with a VPN? The provider I signed up with accepted PayPal, Visa or MC. I just picked PP as the safest option.
