What does Minister Anutin know that the  scientists do not? The potential benefits from the use of  cannabinoids found in marijuana is very limited. The number of potential beneficiaries from smoking or consuming marijuana as it is sold in Thailand probably numbers  in the hundreds. The medical marijuana  market in countries where marijuana is legal or decriminalized, has collapsed. Pharma companies once rushing to get into the market, have abandoned their efforts. The answer is quite simple: There are more effective products available, and people interested in medical marijuana are purchasing the product on their own and using "recreationally". The public doesn't want to purchase  the expensive medical grade marijuana when they can purchase  less expensive recreational products.

Well I for one am happy to see the price drop, and I can jest hear and read the rebuttal about to reply me, but in reality it has not been a blight or blemish on Thailand one bit. A little hiccup here and there but alcohol is way more dangerous.

Roughly my sense of the marijuana madness phase in Thailand.  👍🏽

When something that's been illegal/taboo/"bad" for so long, generations even, is finally let out of the box, the public is going to be interested to see what all the fuss was about.

Older (western) farangs in my area were losing their minds,  programmed by 1950s Reefer Madness = drug pushers and users need to be in prison for life or put to death.  Legal weed turned their whole neat and orderly world upside down.  I tried to tell a few of them Thailand was just in the initial fad craze phase, so calm down, be patient, and this too shall pass.

And it has.   Weed hit Thailand the same way any trending fad does here.  Everywhere all the time and then it begins to fade, and then some fads die off completely.  When's the last time you saw a gaggle of Thai school girls taking selfies with the "duck lips" pose, or all smiling broadly to show off their new dental braces with rainbow coloured rubber bands.   During the initial weed craze phase here, even in my non-tourist area of Thailand, couldn't walk down the street without seeing those silly weed tea/smoothie shops boasting the marijuana leaf symbol.  Or wannabe fancy fusion restaurants advertising their weed-infused cuisine menu items on Facebook.

Now?  None, or very few.  The craze is over.

Weed isn't a fad set to die.  Been around a looong time and will do so into the future.   As for all the small weed shops/dispensaries that sprouted up during the fad craze phase, the free market will determine how of them survive in any given area.  The one nearest my house has already closed down, simply not enough customers to make it worthwhile.

I have smoked it since a young age and know when is ok and when to back off when things need to get done. Persnally I love the stuff, but at and in its own place and time for when I can do it. Like tonight. Love the quality and the smell and love the lower prices now. But even before the Tha birth of this, or as you put it the apocalypse, I still openly smoked it here for decades. Only difference is that was crap and this is yummy. You are right, the hoopla and hype has subsided, and now you even will see little babies or kids in marujuana leaf clothing totally oblivious to the meaning. Like a swastika, it doesn't register.

For the old farts here, let me say one thing, The Rat Pack and prescription or ilicet or taboo drugs being way too prevalent int their day. If it wasn't for their crew at that era of time, then maybe Cheech and Chong would never be.

So, what is the Candy Man about and did they ever tap a toe or sing it or to it?

Oh good grief, not a hidden meaning claim again. Long ago the reference was to LSD in Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Just as that wasn't true , this story about Sammy Davis Jr. is wrong. Roald Dahl wrote a story called  Charlie and the Chocolate Factory back in 1964. A central character was Willy Wonka. Dahl wrote a poem specific to  Wonka. When  the book was  made into a film in 1971, Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley wrote a song for the film called the Candy Man. The person who sang it did an awful job  and Sammy Davis Jr. was asked to step in and save the song. He did that. It has nothing to do with marijuana or drugs or alcohol. It is about  Willie Wonka and his ability to make make candy. Anutin is not Thailand's Willie Wonka. He might be a different sort  of person- that features the letters W, A, N, and K.
