Meeting a king cobra is NOT terrifying unless you have a snake phobia. They are not aggressive to man, and unless the snake has a reason to hood up, you won't realise its a cobra, unless you are a snake nerd or a zoologist.

I notice also that every cobra encounter ends up becoming a King cobra after while too.

Back in the day when I was a project manager in construction here, I remember driving to a job site going into Amata city entrance one morning and there was this gotta be huge 10ft or longer black looking I would say king cobra in the street. I pulled over same as another car, got out to take a closer look and this thing was really fast. I would hardly say not intimidating. Another time went to another job site out the east way back in Sri Racha hills area and the crew picked up a tarp covering our material and it was loaded with little black baby cobras. Not so scary but they were totally scared.

One time up Northo on a montain back side road, I was riding my bike, came around a corner and on the left was a white cobra (not very long and plumpish),  took a jump strike at my bike. That snake not exactly wasn't intimidating but the jump was startling. As far as I know could have been an ablino or Siamese cobra from looking at pictures, but was definetely not a king. totally diferent look.

White cobras usually don't survive on the wild, because they have their own predators. Asian species of Naja can become a bit hostile, but it's usually the horny males to other males, and to other snakes by association.

I distinctly remember the look of the snake and color. Looked like this. Didn't see the back of the hood though, but it was not long and was plumpish. I am pasting this picture for the white of a basic of how it looked and how short and plump it was only as a comparison. Never saw another one like it in the wild. This was north Thailand south of Fang area western mountin side.

Could have been an escape?

Was over 22 years ago so who knows if escape, a release or really wild, but for where it was at is a side road that runs parallel to the mountain range and houses or little tiny villages were at that time very few and between. Way too much open space. Don't let the pictures fool you as that is a long range and a copy I took from from google maps just now. Up here is all farm and fruit orchard land so snakes do quite well here and have lots to feed upon. Don't let the picture fool you as if you ride 10 minutes you are at the base of the big range and Burma is just on the other side. My feeling it the snake for where it was at was wild.

This is a snake I found in Khao Yai as you can see it is totally white, it was under an old tyre lying on the side of the road. It is obviously a fossorial species and although snakes are a passion of mine I have been unable to identify exactly which species it is. Probably a type of blind snake but having seen those before on occasions this was a lot bigger than any specimen I had seen before.
