The only reason that the local Thai rice prices will rise is because more Thai rice will be sold overseas in order to maximize profits from international rice sale prices. There has been plenty of rain in the north and central areas of Thailand, the El Nino excuse is nonsense aimed at finding an excuse to raise prices.

Why can't Thailand also impose restrictions on export of Thai rice to reduce the shortage locally and control the price to cushion the burden on the layman on the road?
