How is this unusual?

My own kids did exactly the same although they never had a dummy. I will also add that neither of my kids went through the crawling stage either. They just pulled themselves up on the corner of the bed or something and started walking. 

Thats when the trouble started though if I'm honest.

LOL! My daughter was walking and talking at 9 months! This is nothing!

This is normal instict for all babies. Nothing special. All my children started walking and talking before their 1st birthday. May be being first time parents it might be a surprise to them.
